Good day to all, I am a rather fresh owner of a new gt2 (it was delivered to me feb this year) confused - at least - by the opposite rumors related to a forthcoming 997 gt2 mkII. I quickly reviewed past posts but could not find anything answering the question hence I take the liberty to ask it directly: shall we see a mkII on the gt2 too?
I think that we don't know yet. In the past (read: 996) there have been no facelifts for the turbo, the GT2 and the GT3 (rs). However, mules.prototypes have been spotted of a GT3 rs, clearly showing that it had the new style front grille. This can be the rumored GT3 RSR street version, or "just" a facelift of the GT3 (rs). And when the GT3 gets a FL, I think it is realistic to say that the GT2 will receive a facelift as well. -Joost-
Porsche isn't the company known for facelifting a car six months after starting deliveries. For that you have to go to Subaru, for example.
As much as I like and admire Subaru, being a prior owner, that is one thing that would bother me today. I think you can relate to that, in Switzerland I saw that they are fairly popular.
I have been told that 997 GT2 production will last for two years only. The first cars have been deleivered end 2007 so I like to think production will be over by end of 2009 which case eventual face lifting during 2010 should contemplate other models but not gt2. This remains unconfirmed, so just an hope of mine
i just saw a facelift turbo a few days ago driving through Stuttgart city right in front of me. it was dark blue with black wheels. there wil def be a GT2 MKII, just a matter of time. Just like the GT3 as well... IMO, we ll see the turbo, then the GT3 and finally the GT2...
GT3SM, I know how you feel, as a MK1 997 GT3 owner I have the same feelings, but will the new car in any way change the qualities of the car you now have? No, it won't. It's all in your head.
Realistically, you have another two years before you see a facelifted GT2 of this generation, if ever. I know I still have another year left till the facelifted GT3's start appearing. I won't love my car any less, basically the only thing that could be bothering us is not being able to say "I have the newest possible model you can have."
If you keep the GT2 for ten years, it will no longer matter and it will be heavily respected, just like the 993 (any model) today, for example.
It's like if the 2,7 RS owners complained that they got overtaken by thirty-five years of newer Porsche models. But could they care less, or what?
I share your point of view Marek nevertheless I would like to kick Porsche management in the aXX anyway for all these unecessary modifications which do not bring any real added value at the end but make you a poorer man in respect of car's residual value. Nevertheless intention is keeping GT2 as long as I can afford it, I gelously keep one of the last 1998 993 Turbo too.
993 Turbo, well, that's the first 911 I was ever in, one can never forget. The owner said it was tuned by Techart to around 500 hp, there was a great big punch in the back when he floored it in second gear.
Right, mine has standard m64/60S engine fitted in factory alongwith Turbo S complete aerokit. I could sell GT2 someday but I would feel really really sorry to abandon this one:
