what is the core competence of AMG, what is their philosophy? building sport cars? IMHO not. even though they canned the A21 AMG, these guys have no scruples doing ANYTHING. at least the price tag is high and the engine is kind of powerful. while audi's "quattro GmbH" and BMW's "M GmbH" are modifing a lot more of the car, AMG is basically implementing an egine and adding some aftermarket style bodyworks -- compare the C32 AMG with the M3 or the RS4...
to me, AMG is kind of a "premium merc", but not a "sporty merc". so i have no problem with an AMG diesel.

...the AMG Owner's Club won't like what you said. 
But I fully agree: because AMG is running some race cars in the DTM, this doesn't mean they sell race cars to customers.
Their products aren't bad (I love my ML55 and my wife will probably get a SLK 32 AMG next year) but I don't consider them to be real sports cars. The SL 55 and the E 55 are that heavy...AMG limits them at 300 kph because of the tires. And I can't consider a car at almost 2 tons of weight to be a sports car.

I have to make a big compliment to the Porsche Clubs and Porsche itself: as much as I had my problems with them, they never kicked me out or talked in a unrespectful manner to me. They always have been fair and tried to help, one thing I really appreciate about Porsche. I'm not talking about dealers but the boys and girls out there working for the factory.
