    X51 availability

I was informed by my OPC today that PAG replied saying that the X51 powerkit will be available at the end of MY09 at the earliest but most probably beginning of MY10.
Do you think I should wait for so long? Does this option make the car so different and special from the point of view of performance and enjoyment, especially now that we get 385HP. I've heard that on 997.1 it increased fuel consumption substantially.
I would appreciate opinions from owners and non-ownwers of x51.
    Thanks!

    Re: X51 availability

While I know several X51 owners who are very happy with that option, I think the general feeling is that it is not great value for money and not worth delaying your order for a year or more.

If you were content to wait for another year and wanted a faster car, I would strongly suggest a GT3 for similar money as 997S/X51...

    Re: X51 availability

I'm not a owner of X51 but FWIW I suggest you go ahead and get your car and enjoy it.

X51 will be out when GT3 MKII launches, otherwise it'll eat up GT3 MKI market. Also keep in mind with X51 you get 25hp more or 30hp more but it won't come to play until you hit above 5k rev so you really won't benefit from it in the lower rev bands. Unless the X51 has changed for the new 9A1 engines .

    Re: X51 availability

i wouldnt wait...25/30 hp over 5000rpm would only make a minor difference in what 1% of your driving fun....youd never get your money back on the x51....mostly though what if you wait a year and porsche marketing wizzards arbitrarily decide no x51...jump now

    Re: X51 availability

I would have thought that watching the new base 997S STOMP on the last x-51 investment that one would learn!

How much do you think X-51 is worth on a used 997 now that the new S has more power than that with better mileage? PCCB is holding up better in terms of value than X-51 IMHO.

You are absolutely right! I am one of those unfortunate ones with a 997 S with X51 who now sees its value vanish when the new car has 4hp more and 4 ft-lbs more of torque at not much cost over the pre-FL car sans X51!

    Re: X51 availability

Can't make a decision on X51 without knowing what X51 will contain. If it is like the old cars x51 feel free to order without it.

    Re: X51 availability

If resale value is a real concern, definitely go with the GT3...

    Re: X51 availability

I wanted to get this option in my FL car but like all other in the UK was told not possible with early orders..... On reflection i am glad i did not as it would be dead money on the trade in.... Also retro fit is expensive.... As i have an LOI in for the FL GT3 i doubt i will bother doing it to my FL car. I plan to enjoy the car for a year to 18 months then make a decision on GT3...

    Re: X51 availability

I would never ever get a car without X51. For me this gives the extra emotions.

But you can get the car without and refit aftermarket as soon as available - that I most probably would do indeed!

Forgetting the cost of retrofit, wouldn it bother you at all to have such an extensive amount of work on the engine of a fairly new car?

Changing the exhaust is not that extensive. This are a couple of screws and you get the thing out. Just some more wires for the by-pass control, thats it. Woulnt mind a retrofit out of that perspective.

History further on shows, that the retrofit is not that much more expensive.

Anyway - a PSE is a must IMO.

Lars, X51 is the whole powerkit not just the sport exhaust. Sport exhaust will be available 11/08 onwards so no problem to wait for this.

    Re: X51 availability

The x51 package may not offer a good resale, but I am sure that it offers extreme enjoyment. Especially at this power level. Most predictions say 415 hp and roughly 326 lb/ft of torque. I expect that like the previous x51, more power will be avaiable everywhere in the powerband, just more over 5k rpm.
Who knows maybe the next generation of the 911 will yield more power but at a high fuel cost, ala E92 M3. In the years to come, the 997.2 x51 may be a sought after car.
Yeah, it's within striking distance of the turbo, but it's NA, which I prefer over FI. A 415 hp flat six will always be a powerful motor.

    Re: X51 availability

    Agree with Lars on PSE.
X51 is an expensive item indeed, and you can check what the trade thinks about it in the secondary market (not that much).
Agree with Grant above, you're really talking GT3 money, and the GT3 is a more desirable car all round (from a driving/sport perspective at least), is more rare, and has better resale values.

    Re: X51 availability

The X51 kit comes into it's own if you'd like a GT3 but for some reason need a 4WD car. Then it's a decent compromise.

The old X51 kit included replacement cylinder heads. Clearly this kit will not work on the DFI engine so there will need to be a new X51 kit for that, hence the delay.

So my thoughts are that you're better off with the GT3 than with a C2SX51 but do not order a C4S without the X51 kit.
