    Another comparison

    Re: Another comparison

    FL is better

    Re: Another comparison

    Nice. Thanks Ron.

Took liberty of adding the TT, FWIW.

    Re: Another comparison

FL may be better - but the Original looks classier...

    Re: Another comparison

I'm glad this finally lines up, it bothered me when 997 first came out:

    Re: Another comparison

The FL looks much better; more aggressive to me. The pre-facelift looks too soft, imo. The turbo always looks good.

    Re: Another comparison

FL looks clean, it's growing on me. I'll be happy to buy one when the time comes.

Pre-facelift looks classy. MMD's gig line comment is on target, that's always sort of bothered me too.

Turbo looks like an ugly batmobile. Still hate it.

Sadly, I agree. Though I gotta put hate in quotes ("hate"). I wish mine were missing it's stock wing. Also don't like the exhaust tips and the grille work on front. Got a dark color to tone down the slats, vents and wing.

I loooove crushing the gas pedal though.

Funny how the Human mind works, huh?

It does, but it would look so much better if it did not have those ugly foglights.

    Re: Another comparison

    .

    Re: Another comparison

we know the rear changes are really minor and only there cause they had to change it up. Why not follow Cayenne lines and soon to come FL boxster!

Overall hands up to porsche for the new 911! It's GREAT!

    Re: Another comparison

Uh Oh. Can it be the new lights seem to make the FL back end look "humpy-er?"

The original lights kept it flatter looking?

Can't want to check out in person.

The lights and the rear bumper. Check out where the lines end in 997.1 vs. 997.2.

I bet C4 cars will look much bumpier too, we'll see it next Wednesday .

    Good eye. Wow..., interesting.

It's the motion of the ocean

I have to admit; as somebody who has been a bit critical of the exterior changes, the impact of my quibbles seem to melt away as I watch the 911 slide around a hairpin turn:

    http://viewer.zmags.com/showmag.php?mid=grdfp&preview=1&_x=1#/page2/

Sure, the new taillight design will be about as long lasting as the "fried egg" headlights of the 986/996. That said, *wow!* -nothing but Love for a Porsche in motion!!

Re: It's the motion of the ocean

I like the apples-apples picture to compare...

Yes, the new car looks a bit more aggressive... But I don't like it better...

Here's something I've not noticed until this picture... The vertical contour at the front-edge of the bumper. Notice how 997.1 runs down softly curving to it's nice bottom-edge.. 997.2 does more of a blunt wrap-around, which looks chunky to me. Just indulge me, and take a piece of paper or a ruler and hold it up to your monitor, blocking view of everything BELOW the impact line (it's everything below that distracts and draws the eye in these comparisons).

Anyhow, they're BOTH good lookers... The 997.2 gives you a bit of Turbo-look and bumps-up the aggression... But the intakes are a bit cartoonish in their size (like Ferrari has trended to), and it's not as balanced and classy of an overall design as 997.1.

MMD does have a point regarding things lining-up, but then again, is it valid from a natural-design perspective to expect that? Do your cheekbones line up with the corners of your mouth and your eyes? When I wipe that notion of "things lining up" out of my conscious, 997.1 looks just right again.

    Here ya go:

Re: It's the motion of the ocean

I believe the original 997 from fascia has cleaner approach while the facelift appears playful.

Re: It's the motion of the ocean

For me it's all a matter of how much the fascia distracts the eye from the headlamps. I love the 997's return to the traditional 911-look round headlamps and I really don't like it when the rest of the front of the car becomes so busy that the eye isn't drawn to the headlamps first.

The worst offender is the TT in a light color with painted grills. Absolutely horrid, imho. The facelift 997 is a small step in the wrong direction (particularly in a lighter color like the silver above), but I do sort of like the cleaner and more aligned look. It's not awful, but not an obvious improvement.

To my eyes, though, the front end of a 911 is all about the headlamps.

Yup. No offense to guys who like it though.

At least the sukkers can be ripped out:

Re: It's the motion of the ocean

I must say that the facelift really surprised me.Not that I had no clue that it was going to looklike this, but it looks way better than I thought it would. Indeed the line-up of the directionals is way better. I feared that, by integrating them in the vents, the 911 would resemble the boxster way too much, but this is not the case at all.

Also, I have to agree with the previous posters about the TT with lightly colored grille... It always struck me as awkward, but now I know why.

Re: It's the motion of the ocean

I agree Joost. The facelift looks very coherent and in proportion. very good looking design IMO.

Err, you've chosen one of the best colours for the 997.1 and arguably one of the worst for the 997.2. Not a very fair comparison.

    Re: C4 Comparison

Red stripe should be taller (wider); wonder how it would look if the stipe was in line with the top edge of the tail light.

    Re: C4 Comparison

    You mean like this?

IMO, "less is more," what's wrong with giving the eye some comfort and keeping things clean and unembellished?

    Re: C4 Comparison

    OR like this?

I think the reason it doesn't look good is because it's now too wide and because the two white lines (bottom photo) don't line up.

Again, too much frickin' BS stuff going on to make a _hopefully_ sleek German car look like an over embellished Nissan or Subaru.

    Re: Another comparison

Thanx for the comparison. I have not seen them side by side until now and IMO i much prefer the cleaner lines of 997.1 ..I think it will become a classic!
