I've had mine done a week after I bought the car and should have done it sooner, to avoid one small stone chip I got during that first week of ownership. It is worth it. I don't see why it would hurt resale value when many owners out there are installing this - I would think it to be a positive addition. While it won't enhance a car's value, it won't hurt it IMO.

Hurt resale??? You do realize that the clearbra is easily removed whenever you so-wish... And underneath, you have a pristine as-new paint-job like a time-warp.. It's SO worth it!!
I say it enhances the car's value, as it gaurantees a better condition of the car down the road...
You're typically looking at $600-$800 installed, depending upon the installer and the extent of the "kit" you go with.

Check with you dealer for a recommendation (They can most likely have it done for you). The clear guard usually lasts 3 years under normal use, then it begins to yellow and become somewhat shabby. Most cover bumper, lower 1/3 of hood and mirrors. Rear fenders are done at factory (front of wheels) I've experienced no rash on the rear part of fenders, despite having 14mm whell spacers on rear. However,mine is not a daily driver and never sees gravel roads or inclement weather

Removed properly, it will not damage the paint. I had clear bra installed on my rocker panels and later had to replace it. The installer simply heated the old clear bra film with a hair dryer and peeled it off. The paint looked like new. The protection is absolutely worth it if you are going to subject your car to flying debris.

Weekender only, I'd pass on the Clear Guard. It may save you a chip or two, however, you need to mask off the edge when waxing and polishing, and if you become so anal about these details, It'll detract from the ultimate pleasure of owning your Porsche.............Driving it! Just enjoy your beast for what it is and it will return the favor in terms of pleasure. Keep it clean and polished and well exercised!

I have it on the front bumper, on the lower lip spoiler, the hood and mirrors. Well worth having, specially if you live in an area with lots of construction dump trucks throwing rocks at you, as it is in Orlando.

I asked my dealer to have mine done as part of the deal so it was on when I picked up the car. After two years of ownership, in one respect I'm glad that I have it--it has saved me from numerous potential rock chips and kept the paint protected. However there are a couple of negatives: as already mentioned, when detailing the car to prevent wax buildup in the edges of the bra, you need to tape these areas. Secondly, it is very easy to scratch the surface of the film during washing and drying (it scratches much easier than the painted surfaces). They are more noticable on my black car than it would be on a silver car. So I guess I am saying that you can justiy either decision. If I was going to do it I would highly recommend having done before you drive the car off of the lot and have the dealer pay for it. And i've been told that it can be removed at any time and will not mess up the paint. I plan to have mine replaced at some point in the future. Good luck!

Detailing Dynamics in Long Island. They are fanatical in terms of quality and I had my clear bra installed two years ago and it is still perfect. Highly recommend.
By the way, in the 150 miles that I drove before having the clear bra installed I already had a chip in my bumper...

I also had my car done there. Those guys are fantastic. Stradale turned me on to them. You should PM him. I believe he did the entire hood in Venture Shield and the front fascia, fenders, rockers, sills and wheel wells in 3M. Supposedly, Venture has less orange peel, but can not be buffed if a chip happens. 3M on the other hand can be buffed, but has a bit more orange peel. I would do exactly what Gregg did. They tint too. Check out Stradale's 997tt cab on this forum; beautiful!
Atomic's car has Venture Shield. Also beautiful. His was done on the west coast I believe.
Oh, and if you have to drive to get your car done, either keep the shipping plastic on your car or use blue painter's tape to cover everything. I did that on my 997tt then drove there from upstate NY. My car looked like it was a disquised proto type or something. Lots of bizzare looks but it got there without a chip.

I have just got my 997TT and had the front bumper, entire hood, mirrors, wheel wells and associated exterior areas, and doors with 3M (on Atlas Gray). If you have it done with an experienced detailer, and have them care for it a couple of times a year, it saves the paint is just about invisible (most don't even know it's there unless you point it out). I use my car daily, take long road trips and will track it so I went for the whole 9 yards after experiences with my M3.
I talked with a number of Porsche owners who regretted not having some areas covered, so I took their advice.

It's ALL ABOUT THE INSTALL. IMO Detailing Dynamics is the best in the business. They've done 8 cars (?) for me now. But I'm still amazed every time at the attention to detail. They're perfectionists, it's like they're working on their own car. Each install is completely custom, they dont work w/ pre-cut kits so anywhere the edge can be tucked around the panel it is. I know it might sound like a commercial but I honestly cant say enough good things about how they do film & I've been paying attention to this film stuff for 7 years now.
I had the entire hood done w/ Venturefilm. Behind each wheel is 3M. The bumper is 3M. The lights are 3M. (I know Porsche doesnt recommend this but I've never had a problem) They also removed the factory film on the rear quarter (in front of the rear wheel). Instead they made one piece that protects a larger area & blends in 10 times better. It's one piece that starts in the same area but gets tucked into the door jam & runs the length of the door jam to protect the inside area that gets scuffed up from shoes & the outside area from sand etc, etc. You can be 6 inches from it but you cant see the line inside the door jam.
I think DD is booked up right now into approx. mid July so if you want it done I'd get on their schedule. They have stopped using Venturefilm though so just fyi.

NONSENSE.... Mask the edges??? Good grief, all you have to do is be careful to run the wax pad strictly in the direction that leads AWAY from the edge, stepping-down from the film to the paint. That way, no wax gets pushed IN to the edge, hence no issue.
Furthermore, even when I goof up and accidentally gob some wax into the edge, it cleans/buffs right up, doesn't weep under or create a chalky line. Let the wax dry, carefully run the edge with your buffing cloth, and even use a carefully-applied fingernail if necessary.
Mask the edges... what an unnecessary waste of time!! Just run downhill off the edges, And good waxes don't leave a stubborn chalky residue anyhow, any mistakes are easily and quickly cleaned up with zero damage to the film's edge...

I had a 3M clearcoat bra installed at the dealer (you could save yourself a chunk of change by getting it aftermarket), but frankly, it was worth it for me on the drive home right after taking delivery, as a car (probably 10-15 car lengths - large American car lengths) ahead of me kicked up a stone. No scratches, dings, or any damage to my car. Frankly, it was worth it.
But like I said, you can get it a lot cheaper if you get it in an aftermarket shop, and I would recommend that if you live relatively close to the dealer and to an aftermarket installation outfit (or one that can install it at your home or office with a proper guarantee). I just don't happen to have one near to my home (I live about 86 miles from my dealer, and I'm out in the "boondocks") so that's why I spent the extra change to get it installed by the dealer.
Still glad I did it, even with the extra cost.
