    997 US ordering guide

Not too many surprises except for the $4080 PDK price tag - ouch!

    Re: 997 US ordering guide

    Thanks for the Doc .

Any PDF on the Cabs ?

    Re: 997 US ordering guide

    Nothing about X51 yet?

    Re: 997 US ordering guide

That's the only info available now that I know of.

    Thanks!

    Re: 997 US ordering guide

LSD is a very reasonably priced option (and a must-have if I were to order a new car)

I second that. But its a shame they dont offer the LSD on the cabs.
    Why?!

    Re: 997 US ordering guide

I did not see an option for aero?? One has to purchase aftermarket?

Like X51 it will be added in due time!

    Re: 997 US ordering guide

Sigh... You guys have it so cheap over there. Only $86K for a "S" while we pay almost double that in the UK.

Im off, going to the US where I can be properly rich with my cash. Im ordering a "TT" and an GT3 in the US and keeping the change from the sale of my UK "S"

Yeah, but consider that you don't have to buy the sport shifter or aluminum shifter and E brake; which will save about $1,900.

    Re: 997 US ordering guide

True, we do have it "cheap." Even $4,800 is not bad for the PDK. I bought my 911S with a few options for a total of just under $90,000, including all the taxes, and that was in early 2006. If the U.S. imposes a national sales tax, say 10%-15% - similar to a value added tax - it would raise the price considerably.
That prospect, and the expectations of a sinking dollar and possible sharp price increases, were why I bought the car when I did instead of waiting for the current model with the PDK, which I would definitely get.

    Re: 997 US ordering guide

Porsche really knows the art of gouging customers. Can't believe the creme white, nordic gold and green are $3000 options.

Add either of those + PDK + PASM, Sports exhaust and a few other goodies and the price tag will sprint up $10 000.

It's not. The dollar losing it's value makes it cheaper for people from abroad to buy a 911 over there but for those living in the country nothing has changed. It would be the same if the pound suddenly lost 40% of it's value. We living inside the UK border would continue living a normal life with foreigners would flock the country taking advantage of all the "cheap" things there are to buy.

Economics are much more than just currency exchange rates. In the US $86k has the same street value as Euro 86k has in Germany or in the UK. So people over there are working just as hard to afford a 911 as we are. When the Dollar finally recovers to the level it was on 8 years ago, it won't be as cheap for us foreigners to go on vacation on the other side of the Atlantic.

    Re: 997 US ordering guide

Hope you are right in your forecast of the US dollar recovering to where it was 8 years ago. I have a gut feeling it won't, but as I said, I hope I'm wrong as I'd like to be able to get another 911.

    Re: 997 US ordering guide

I wish someone would publish a self-help book on how to part with $86K USD on a car!!!! Spending this kind of after-tax money on a car is really difficult for me mentally. My advice to prospective owners - do it while you're young and dumb. And by dumb, I mean before you understand things like time value of money, opportunity cost, etc. I've got a very supportive wife, but I'm blocked mentally on dropping this kind of money and it's killing me!

$86K? I just specced mine and it came to $110k. I'm buying while I'm still dumb.

Some of the guys here can afford to drop that money on a car. You only live ones. If you can comfortably afford something then by any means buy it.

Agree 100%! Life is very short and it will make no difference if you are the richest person in your cemetery

    Re: 997 US ordering guide

I think the point is how do you order a US car and re-import it in Europe... Then we have the best of both worlds. I understand the OPCs there will not allow you to do so, is that correct?

As for the mental block "young and dumb", of course there is an element of greed, arrogance, metarialistic,... however I do believe that this is termed "consumerism" and has found its ultimate expression in the USA!!! By the way, do not take this the wrong way, I am a perpetrator as much as much as anything else and I know it, and I love it (and am working hard to ...keep being so)!

In fact I just tracked my 997S twice over the last 10 days, which must have cost me >$1.500 in fees, insurances, fuel and consumables. How is that for an "illogical waste"... But what a feeling!
