    my take 599/997tt

    i know the 599 has been out for awhile but getting to check one out this weekend in our backwater was for me an interesting direct comparision between the 599 and the tt....first and right to the point quickness to 100mph seemed about the same as my stock car certainly not much different.i would assume a modded tt would be noticeably quicker....the exhaust sound was simply the best in contrast to the tt's muted sound only thing i can recolect sounding better was an f50.....why the f_ _ k cant porsche come up with a pdk transmission and real paddle shifters that were say 50% as good as the 599. boy it shifts hard and quick i was stunned by the feeling.....the interior is a little busy for my tastes but obviously serious quality. the seats look and feel great much better than the tt particularily the great carbon fiber backs and sides. i dont care for the dash with the hooded instruments and large awkward to me air vents. liked the lack of a back seat with just the luggage straps....its noticeably bigger in/out from the tt and definitely sits up higher which i didnt mind.in a brief ride it felt less viseral and edgy than the tt i would think you would notice the extra size and weight in spirited driving....obviously a really, really great gt car....but my conclusion its not $260,000.00 better than the tt.

    thanks for the write up!!, that 599 pic, looks amazing, and that's really strange, because those wheels dont match the car as well as the stradale wheels

    Stan, I just had a chance to drive the F40 and it was interesting comparing that to my 997TT. I also had a chance to drive a F430 spider/coupe, 550 and 550 Barchetta. All of them felt distinctively different from the other.

    Drove the F430 spider (2 variants) last summer. Amazing experience, terrific, enjoyable, too much fun.

    Why not to buy?

    1) the ridiculous price of 'admission' to play the F-car game at 75k or so over original sticker for your first 'used' one, then all future ones at list -

    2) no way in hell you can drive an F-car as frequently as a P-car for the money, unless you are willing to take a huge hit at resale.

    You are writing about the best Ferrari V12 ever. I wouldn't even dare compare it to a 911 Turbo. Apples & oranges.

    If possible, my stable would have a 997 GT3RS (for the track) and a 599 (for the road)

    It seems porsche has more a timeless look IMO. I like the smaller car feel of a porsche as opposed to giant spaceship look of the ferrari as well.

    The difference in price is $260,000 minus $130,000=$100,000.

    To "outsiders" however, the difference is almost $300+k as the 599 is trading around the high 400s~ (that was 6 months ago, not sure about now)

    Yes, $260 is correct if you're one of the lucky people "allowed" to buy a Ferrari at list.

    Sadly I'm not on that list ...
