Thanks for sharing, and you did a great job in displaying the article which I was able to read completely. I am sure many of us feel the same as the author that "the Boxster S is a glorious blend of all the best automotive engineering in the world - the kind that's focussed on driving pleasure above all.....More near-perfection from Porsche, a fast high-revving mid-engined roadster that makes all its opposition look rubbish." Having owned the rubbish makes me appreciate the Boxster all the more.

I've seen several of these RS60's in showrooms (I've spent so much time in Porsche showrooms this last month with kinrara I feel like a Porsche salesman 
) and I think this model looks terrific in GT silver with carrara red leather. It comes with sports seats and SWMBO doesn't like sports seats or carrara red leather so no RS60 for me, then

SportAuto tested the RS60 and in terms of acceleration there was not any advantage over the regular car. So the later either was surprisingly powerful or those fancy eight hp are nothing more than hype.
However the car deserves some appreciation, due to its basis.

I couldn't agree more. I love Porsche (the company and the cars) but it bugs me that they play games by coming out with special editions that are nothing more than optioned out cars. I'll bet the RS60 value will drop like a rock when the new PDK boxster is available later this year- after all, you can simply option out the new boxster to look like the RS60 and you'll get better mileage, more HP, etc.

Spot on - the RS60 looks great, and isn't bad value IF the standard options are what you want. Now is not a good time to buy a Boxster with the new DI models only 9 months away.
However, when 987 replaced 986 three years ago the earlier models residual values didn't suffer particularly badly, here in the UK anyway. Retained values are a lot worse now than they were then though.

In my opinion an even better option is to wait until the '09 is introduced and buy an '05 to '08 at an attractive price. I wouldn't want to be the first one out of the box owning pdk and dfi, as I have been there done that with other carmakers. Give Porsche a little time to work the bugs out. As far as performance differentials, I am now hearing 315hp for a dfi "S" and an increase in fuel economy. A 20hp differential will hardly be noticeable, and the price differential you can get on a close out '07 or '08, as compared to an '09 will probably take 10+ years to get it back in fuel savings. Enjoy the '05 to '08 987, and hold out for a 988 in MY2011, which should be introduced in 2010. Even then, I may wait 2 years after the introduction of that model.
