    Looking for another Carerra

Hi all. I'm thinking about getting another car. This is not going to be a daily driver, I have two cars for that, including a 997 C2S. This is just something to tool around with as I'm looking for a different experience than the C2S. I test drove the Turbo and the 993S today. Totally different experiences. The Turbo is really quick, but the 993 really puts the driver in control of the vehicle. I haven't been able to try the 930 as the dealer was closed today.

Which of those three would you chose to add to your stable and why? (Pic's below)

    Thanks!

996TT - Not the actual one, but exactly like it...

    Re: Looking for another Carerra

The 993 has very clean and neat lines....and will be the most collectable as well in a few years. I want a 993 just like the one you have shown. love it!

    Re: Looking for another Carerra

Agree with 993, best looking choice and different driving experience to 997S.

    Re: Looking for another Carerra

    i voted 993!

    Re: Looking for another Carerra

    Me too.

    Re: Looking for another Carerra

    993 C2S, hands down.

    Re: Looking for another Carerra

Very interesting... The 996TT is nice, but other than the turbo acceleration I don't think it's different enough from the 997S to consider it as an additional car. The 993 is different altogether. The floor-hinged pedals were certainly a change, and it`s much smaller than the 996 and 997. It will probably come down to that or the 930 which I hear is a beast as well.

    Re: Looking for another Carerra

Get the 930 but shoot for an '89 with the 5 speed transmission. If you can, get that one instead of the previous models with 4 speed transmissions. And, if it gets too hot in the Summer in your area, get the Griffiths A/C system as I did on my '87 Carrera and you will find yourself turning it down from max speed in the Summer!

    Re: Looking for another Carerra

Ground beef, ground round, or ground sirloin?

Screw it, have a filet mignon, get a low mile, well kept 928GT and discover what real porsche driving is.

    Re: Looking for another Carerra

My acquanitance got a perfect 993 about three months ago. Talked to him a few days back and asked him about the car. He said he "wondered why he had to buy it." Not his main Porsche, just a "fun" car yet it's taking up space and the "thrill" is gone. The thrill of the interstate multi-month persuit? The T of the outfitting, and initial detailing? The T of savoring the differences between the cars? He's not a collector. He's not a genuine bad-to-the-bone (?!) car collector.

Compared to my friend above, I'm much more of a car guy, have the room and the cash so that's not a problem for my ownership of an E46M3 and a 986s and a luxury SUV along with the TT; I sometimes _wonder_ why I have all this "junk."

Just something to think about Joe... . There's probaby no wrong answer.

BTW: DEFinitely a 993. Nothing would be a better comp drive. Earlier ones currently seem to be waaaaaay overpriced for the fun they provide.

    Re: Looking for another Carerra

I've always loved the 930's, my grandpa used to have one, and when I was little I would sit in it and make engine noises for hours.

So for the sake of nostalgia, I would get the 930. However I think the 993 would be better as a daily driver.

    Re: Looking for another Carerra

For obvious reasons I voted 993S. But I would try to get a MY96 993 instead of the MY97 993S. 993S has only widebody without the turbo brakes or turbo suspension of the 993 4S or 993 turbo. MY96 993 is the first MY to have 285hp but cars with ident numbers containing a 'T' (WP0ZZZ99Z T S31 ...) still have the shorter gearing of former MYs of the gears 2 to 6 making the car accelerating faster. The gearing was changed for MY97, I believe to comply with new noise and/or emissions regulations. Unfortunately, the US didn't get the shorter gearing at all. So, that might be the case for Canada as well.

    Thanks! I'll research this further.

    Re: Looking for another Carerra

I would get a 993tt ... if money doesn't matter get a RUF 993tt ... they are simply perfect ... punch, speed, design, strong value e.g residuals ... it has it all !!!

    I sold my 997s with PCCB etc. ... for a '98 993tt WLS2 with 450Hp ... gave it a state-of-the-art suspension ... i just love it !!!

    Cheers
    Tom

    Re: Looking for another Carerra

The 993TT is an option too. How reliable is the TT motor compared to the N/A in in the 993?

    Re: Looking for another Carerra

    Well, I voted 930.
You said you wanted something to just tool around with, not a daily driver. The 993S is an absolutely stunning car, especially in the looks department, but I think the 930 is more of a deviation from the 997 C2S. It is raw, it is a classic, and it will bite your head off in an instant when you don't pay attention
