    passport srx

anyone install an srx system? Any advice for 06 997 coupe, necessary to drill holes to run wires? Just rec'd E-Bay srx today. On the fence if install of rear laser shifter really necessary. Any suggestions would be great!

    Re: passport srx

I've used the srx in four cars now including my 996. I've had them professionally installed, so my experience is indirect. However, I'm quite sure that on the 996, wires went thru the firewall and no holes needed to be drilled.

FWIW, I've never bothered to install the rear laser detector. I've always figured if they get you from behind, you're dead meat. I do know that in order for the unit to be functional, you do have to hook up the rear detector. My installers just bury it somewhere.

    Re: passport srx

I have it installed in my 06 Super Charged Porsche 997S as well as my 07 Escalade ESV. I just pulled it out of the 07 ESV to install in my 08 Escalade ESV. I also have one installed on my wifes Lexus GX470. I love it and "knock on wood" have never had a speeding ticket. All have the SR3 shifter. I keep the controll unit velcroed to the steering wheel on all vehicles

    Re: passport srx

Sorry to go off-topic for a moment, but could you please tell me what your 'Super Charged' Porsche 997S is comprised of... ...thanks.

    Re: passport srx

Thanks for the feedback,I'm sure you put it to good use on the Mass. pike!

'atomic80' has the system installed in his 997TT. That being said, I would advise against it, if buying new. Get a V1 and a good laser jammer. Both will outperform the SRX.

He's kind of contradicting himself. The SRX _IS_ a laser jammer although they officially call it a laser diffuser. I use both the V1 and the SRX in mine. Best of both worlds.

atomic, that is what I've said. Get a separate detector and a jammer and they will outperform the SRX. You may disagree, but there are better products out there than the SRX (although it has stood the test of time remarkably well). The V1 has superior radar detectiobn capability, compared to the Escort and an AntiLaser, Laser Interceptor or Laser Pro Park (pretty much based on the same platform) are clearly superior to the Escort jammer. The Escort is actually not a bad jammer by any stretch, but those are better.

    Re: passport srx

I'm not sure why you're so intent on believing that those are THAT much better. The SRX works quite well. I suspect that you feel that way because you personally don't have the SRX yourself so you're not quite sure how well it performs. I'm basing my testimony on the fact that I've ACTUALLY tested it in real life situations.

As I stated before, I had mine updated via firmware release and it works even better than before. Now Escort has come out with the new 9500ci system which works even better than the SRX.

Not a personal attack on your part, but it's really hard to believe someone who has never actually tried it. A year ago, I even did a test with another fellow who had a Laser Pro Park and a rented laser gun. Guess what, they both performed equally as well.

    Re: passport srx

atomic80, I have tested the SRX with a police laserguns shooting them myself over and over, and tested most other jammers as well, and Crash is correct. The SRX is LED based dinosaur that has not been updated in years, its older even that most laser guns current versions out there, in fact Escort is planning on releasing a new version sometime in the near future. Those new generation diode based jammers that he has mentioned are much superior than the SRX in jamming police laser.
Currently your best bet is to purchase the best radar detector for your area, and laser jammer separately.

    Just my two cents.

    Re: passport srx

Must be in Europe then. It works fine with 95% of the laser guns here in the US.

    Re: passport srx

They are the same guns more or less, the most comon gun in the world is the LTI's, current version is the Ultralyte model line, and withb this gun I could punch through some headlight shots, and every single rear shot.

The eficacy of the jammer is not 100% fependant on itself, it also depends on the reflective characteristics of the car its installed (the large and shinnier front the harder to protect) and also the way the lidar gun is used (short vs long range, tripod vs handheld, area aimed on the car, etc). So some cars in some situations are easy to protect and a mediocre jammer will do, but may no work the same in other cars, thats why I'm not saying your exeprience with the jammer is not so, but in gerenal the SXR is not the best option because you have practically 0% protection of the rear, and in the front most cars may have trouble, at least much more than with these other new gen diode jammers that are much more effective.

    Nicely explained .

    Re: passport srx

Opinions vary. That's the nice thing about diversity. I'm satisfied with my SRX because it does it's job effectively. But however, Escort has released the new generation 9500ci diffuser with a new set of diffusers. The inherent limitations of the SRX will soon be overcome once I upgrade.

    Nice job, y'all.

    Absolutely
