    Engine compartment question - what is it?

    Can anyone tell me what the function of the wire bail is here? My car has it in the "up" position (first pic) but normal would seem to be "down" (second pic). The wire bail raises and lowers the plunger in the center of the black cap. This seems to be related to the cooling system.

    It looks like the bleeder valve for the water cooling system reservoir. I believe it is better to leave it down (not under tension).

    I don't know what it is but mine is in the down position.

    Thanks - I think it should be down too - but my car must have been delivered in the up position. I took delivery 2 weeks ago in Washington, but I'm now home with the car in SoCal. I'm tempted to set it "down" and see what happens.

    Air bleeder valve for the cooling system, put it back down or leave it up. Will not hurt anything, dealer probably accidentally left it open..
