    Help! Exporting US Carrera GT

Need help urgently! I purchased a US spec. CGT and exported it to Asia. The car arrived and cleared customs. First the battery was dead then I replaced a new battery (same spec.). The car won't start. It is making cracking sound i.e. the engine turns but won't fire. Feel like no gas is going through. I am assuming some electronic problem. Question: Have anyone exported a US Spec car with this problem, because I am thinking it could be problems with anti-theft alarm or GPS theft tracking system i.e. once the car leaves US then it is considered stolen because it cannot connect with the US GPS? Any thoughts is greatly appreciated.

Re: Help! Exporting US Carrera GT

Why not contact your local Porsche dealer in Asia?

Re: Help! Exporting US Carrera GT

    Check with the seller.

Another idea u may or may not have considered:
If it's a US spec car you probably have to press the clutch fully when turning the ignition. This is a safety measure they have in the US.
My Boxster is a US spec car, too - and this feature has often created problems for valet parking attendants, mechanics etc.

Re: Help! Exporting US Carrera GT

I did press the clutch to the floor when start. Also the US dealer also suggests that if the fuel injection is flooded then need to press both clutch and gas to the floor. Must do this several times to clear the flood.

I think it's the same for all porsches. As far as I remember, you also have to engage the clutch to start a porsche in Belgium

Re: Help! Exporting US Carrera GT

Same for South African spec cars as well, need to press the clutch for ignition.

Re: Help! Exporting US Carrera GT

It's usually the low battery that makes this kind of sound. Check your battery again.

The engine will not even turn over if the clutch is not fully depressed (that's the point of the safety feature - you don't crash the car into the garage wall ahead of you, even with just the torque of the starter motor). If he is hearing the engine turn over then it is certainly not the clutch/safety mechanism. Time to go down the standard checklist - Does it have fuel? Sometimes fuel is removed for shipping. Trying to start it without fuel is not good for the engine/fuel pumps.

Where in Asia are you? I might know someone who can help....

If I remember correctly you have to engage the clutch on the 997 models, but not on the "older" models, such as the 996.

9x6 all need the clutch depressed.

Re: Help! Exporting US Carrera GT

Moogle, I have to admit that this is certainly the case when it comes to the US 996. I've just consulted a manual for the US models.

But are you sure that this is also the case for the EU 996??

I have to admit that I'm starting to doubt my previous statement..

Re: Help! Exporting US Carrera GT

My 996GT2 doesn't need to have clutch depressed to start engine.
