    Steal These Books

    Nah..., don't steal anything. Also, _never_ speed in people's neighborhoods!

    Anyway these are very interesting books to have for our cars. They explain all the systems _almost_ in layman's terms.

    The Carrera book describes all about the Carreras. The Turbo describes what's different about the Turbo compared to the Carrera. So in order to understand the Turbo you ahould have BOTH books.

    Awwww Geez..., I dunno..., there's about 250 pages and I don't want to get hunted down by Porsche and fired at work.

    I have the 2005 997/997s Workshop Manual and the 2005 997s Technik Manual if anyone wants them.

    Someone online charged me for them but, hey if you want them, I'll upload them for ya. It is Christmas after all.

    MMD - If you have a chance could you tell me if there is anything in there regarding changing steel brake rotors w/ every pad change? In other words I want to know if Porsche recommends or doesn't recommend doing this. I checked w/ my Porsche dealer who said yes (change w/ every pad change) but was curious if it's in print.

    I combed the brake sections: nothing.

    You bring up a good point Stradale, BTW. I think the "service information" title is a bit misleading (idiomatic translation?). The books basically _describe_ the main features of every system, what's involved, how they work, how they interact. There're no specific service specs.

    Here's one of two pages of generalities on the steel brakes.

    Order from dealer parts. I typed parts numbers in red. Oddly enough they were reasonably priced. Trying to remember now: about us$30 and us$20 (?).

    I ordered the Turbo service booklet. I looked through the CD collection I bought with all the service information and found the 997 service booklet in PDF format. I thought I had the Turbo version but I don't.

    I should point out that this is actually just the service booklet and is that MMD posted a picture of earlier on. That one is 200 pages long. The shop manual is 130mb and is over 5000 pages long. There's no way I can email that one to folks!
