Gregg - how was your old Arctic Silver Carrera with stone chips?

Did you notice them much given the silver primer underneath?!

Dun no, never got a single stone chip on my 997 S Cab. & I used the car for 2 yrs to commute through Long Island, Queens, The Bronx/ Westchester, (meaning some tough roads) almost everyday - Front bumper & 1/3rd hood, rockers & behind each wheel done w/ 3M. Picked up the car from the dealer & drove directly to the film installer. That's one of the only negative's about getting the film done, if done right it's going to be very hard to buy another high end sports car again without getting it filmed. I couldn't do it, the thought of hearing stones get kicked up from the tires or hitting the front w/ out film would make me cringe now.

Guys, I am surprised that you're considering re-spraying. If my car gets painted it will be sold as soon as possible as I can't stand the thought of having different shades of color. I would not drive my TT until I had the film put on. $2K for a $170K car is peanuts. Don't even think about it. Go with VS and should be fine. The premier guys installed VS on 3 buggatis, Lamb's, F cars, etc and should be good for TT as well. my 0.02

I'm the same way, if my car has been painted I don't want it anymore, it's just not the same. Plus the fact that a re-spray is never as hardy as the factory paint so after a re-spray of the front the paint is going to look like hell after a few months. The film really does protect well & gives so much piece of mind too.

I live in Somerset County, NJ. Does any one know any installer who does a good job on clear bra (VentureShield)? I know next to nothing about these things.

    Thanks!!

Take a drive to Long Island and let Detailing Dynamics do it.

oops, I see Greg already told you - you can tell them that Greg AND Chris sent you LOL.

    Re: What about NO protection?

Yes, Eddie at DD did mine, nice job too.

A big advantage w/ DD is consistancy too. Key to the film is the quality of the install, it's the difference between a great job & a terrible one. At DD not only is the film put on by the owners (Matt & mostly Eddie) but that's how it's always been done there, from even before they were at the Mineola location. Matt did my 996 turbo at his previous Port Washington location 6 yrs ago. I'm beginning to sound like a commercial for DD huh. I don't get anything for the DD props but they are friends of mine & I can't say enough good things about their work, they know how perfectionist's think, if you're nuts like me, it's okay. LoL!!

    Re: What about NO protection?

I just got my 997TT back from Metropolitan Detail. They're the master when it comes to applying clear bra coverage! Very happy with the results of their work. I had my hood covered with the clearcoat Ventureshield a couple months ago. They've finished the job off by doing both front fenders.

They removed my headlights to tuck the clear bra material underneath leaving as little exposed as possible

Where previously I had a line on my fender

    Line is now gone

    Completely invisible

The clear bra material ends on the base of my windshield

    Hood coverage ends here

From my experience with them, I learned that it's very important to find an installer who is experienced with using the material.

    Re: What about NO protection?

Looks good Jason. My car has the same protection. Much happier w/o the lines. I had the partial installs on my last 2 P cars but this time around I knew better. You can not tell there is a bra on the car and it's fully protected from elements. Well worth the extra few dollars.

    Re: What about NO protection?

At the end of the day, a car with a clear bra is like furniture wrapped in clear plastic.

Have you looked at a clear bra with polarized glasses on a sunny day? You often see horrible Moiré patterns.

There is barely a Porsche, Ferrari or Lamborghini that doesn't have paintwork done at some point. Cars sold through the Porsche approved used scheme in the UK have to meet certain criteria and number of stone chips per panel is one of those. Too many and the car gets painted. Unless the bodyshop doing the work is very poor you cannot tell the difference in colour.... and I am very fussy about such things and would notice the slightest imperfection as my dealer would attest to Each to their own but I'm not a fan of the film.

"There is barely a Porsche, Ferrari or Lamborghini that doesn't have paintwork done at some point"

Yeah but the important part it to avoid a paint job while you own the car. Don't care what anyone says body shop paint jobs are never the same as when done at the factory. 4 Porsche's & Ferrari's later none of them had paint work. I'm sure my Stradale would have needed a front spray if I hadn't protected it w/ film.

I've yet to see a half way decent film installer in the UK so I'm not surprised to hear people from the UK aren't fans of the film, I wouldn't be either if I never saw an install done at the highest level. When it's not done properly it can look pretty fugly.
