Buying 2005 Turbo S Cabriolet -Question for Dealers/VIPs

    Hey everyone!

After lurking here for a long time, I finally registered and would like to consult the knowledgable members here on this board, as this resource has proven to contain a wealth of information.

I am in the process of purchasing my 2nd Pcar, first is a 2003 Boxster S

I am getting the 2005 Turbo S Cabriolet as a sort of GT/Ultimate sports car

the problem is, the decision to buy this car only came from the fact that my daily driver is no longer operating (read: broke).

thus lies my dillemma, i need a car to drive, and i can't drive the boxster since it belongs to another member of my family, and i must wait about 4-5 months for the turbo.

    here is the question...

would it be out of the question to ask for either a 911 coupe, boxster, or cayenne from the dealer's loaner pool or demo pool for me to drive while i wait?

i plan to ask them, but to a self concious and conservatively reserved person like myself it is a little embarrassing...

i would think that when i'm dropping 150k (360 modena territory) for a car, i would get some special treatment,... what kind of reaction should i expect...

    1. thats way out of line, get the hell out of our dealership!
    2. a bit of a stretch, but we might be able to get you a v6 cayenne.
    3. choose whatever you want from our loaner/demo pool!

keep in mind i have purchased a new 2003 boxster S from this dealer when the 03s first came out not more than 18 months ago, and are quite friendly with all the sales/management staff.

    Best Regards

Re: Buying 2005 Turbo S Cabriolet -Question for Dealers/VIPs

It ain't going to happen. The Dealer's are of the opinion (IMO) that they will sell all the Turbo S models with no problem

Buy a VW R32 for fun, while you wait..that's what I did.

Re: Buying 2005 Turbo S Cabriolet -Question for Dealers/VIPs

I'm not sure about your dealer but my dealer (and I bought or leased 5 Porsche from him) would probably not give me anything for free. You might be able to "rent" a loaner from him for a few months at a special rate but I doubt he will offer you that if he isn't a large dealer with lots of loaners.
Another possibility: buy a car from his stock, something he wants to get rid of and arrange some sort of guaranteed "buying back" when your Turbo S arrives.

Special treatment? Definetely yes. But I never heard of a 360 Modena driver to get a free car for several months from his dealer.

Re: Buying 2005 Turbo S Cabriolet -Question for Dealers/VIPs

It's all about business, RC is right.
I think that you should definitly ask your delaer anyway.
He will probably offer a deal similar to what RC said.
He'll sell you a car with a guarrantied buy back price in a few months time. Otherwise, just a get a nice cheap car while you wait for the Turbo Cab.

Re: Buying 2005 Turbo S Cabriolet -Question for Dealers/VIPs

    Absolutley!

Don't expect special treatment from a Ferrari Dealer. The special treatment will bet that he is willing to seel you a car! That's it!

    .... same with Porsche!

Re: Buying 2005 Turbo S Cabriolet -Question for Dealers/VIPs

    Guys,

I never got an actual Porsche car as a loaner from my dealer. It always was a "normal" car usually provided from budget rent a car company cars pool.

Does anybody here get Porsche as a loaner from his/her dealer?

Lately, yes. I got a 996 C2 Cab Tiptronic when my Cayenne got the sport exhaust install. Of course the dealer charged me for that but cost was acceptable.
When I had my Cayenne at the dealership to check the well known throttle/shifting delay issue, my dealer provided a Boxster S 550 Spyder Anniv. Edition free of cost.
Not so long ago, my dealer usually provided a VW Beetle or a VW Golf as loaners but it seems to have stopped.
Maybe Porsche issued new dealer guide lines regarding loaners, at least I hope so. Of course I can speak for Germany only, don't know how this works in other countries.

Re: Buying 2005 Turbo S Cabriolet -Question for Dealers/VIPs

I get a normal car (Mercury Sable last time) from Enterprise rent-a-car. I asked the dealer why they wouldn't just give out Boxsters or Cayennes, and he said that they can't give the cars on the lot because then they will be considered loaner cars, and be called "used" cars. If anyone gets a Porsche loaner, does the dealer just give a car off the lot?

Re: Buying 2005 Turbo S Cabriolet -Question for Dealers/VIPs

No way, always some crappy rental from enterprise!

Re: Buying 2005 Turbo S Cabriolet -Question for Dealers/VIPs

3 months is pushing it way much, when at Porsche Puebla (I no longer work there) the most we would loan a car under different circumstances was 10 days, once a customer got a Carrera for 3 weeks when his Boxster engine broke, but it was our first broken engine, we opened in december 2001.

I think the best deal is to rent either a car from the used lot or an ugly Carmon Red Cayenne stuck in the dealers inventory.

Besides that I seriously doubt you are getting any farther, but let us know how it went

Re: Buying 2005 Turbo S Cabriolet -Question for Dealers/VIPs

Heheheh hey everyone, yes, as some of you may have guessed it...

sofiefatale is me , (some of you may have seen the 'Kill Bill' connection...)

I didn't want my dealer to read it (as i know he browses rennteam/rennlist/ppbb

so i made a new name, turns out i didn't go with that dealer, and went another one where i only have to wait 3 months, and that is easier than the 6 months wait at the previous dealer.

i will just keep my current cars for this period

    thanks everyone!

thanks to frissen also, hey friss, i tried to email this question to you from ppbb but i guess it got lost in the vastness of the internet

my sincerest apologies to everyone for the deception, but i didn't want an innocent question posted to the net and then potentially ruining a deal.

anyway, its all good now, i have a TT-S Cab for september production and october delivery. one of, if not THE first to the USA.

thanks so much to everyone for all the great info RC/CF/Rob all the admins, great resource for Porsche info!

this is my 2nd pcar in 2 years... these things are like crack cocaine... sooo good, yet so bad... but sooo good

i'm one happy camper, going to keep the boxster too, now... to get a Cayenne Turbo to make my garage the same as the porsche.com website

Re: Buying 2005 Turbo S Cabriolet -Question for Dealers/VIPs

    ahahahahhahahahha

and they said it couldn't be done

    i just got $1000 off a september production 2005 996 Turbo S.

Re: Buying 2005 Turbo S Cabriolet -Question for Dealers/VIPs

    How?

Re: Buying 2005 Turbo S Cabriolet -Question for Dealers/VIPs

    jedi mind trick.

actually, i think it can be attributed to me being one of the best businessmen i've ever met

Re: Buying 2005 Turbo S Cabriolet -Question for Dealers/VIPs

    and humble!!

Re: Buying 2005 Turbo S Cabriolet -Question for Dealers/VIPs

But I thought all '05 TT Cabs were 996 base TT, nothing more, and surely not 997's. What's up with that?

OK, I remember that one now. My point was the TT would NOT be a 997. Just too quick on the trigger (keyboard) lately.

    Thanks!

Re: Buying 2005 Turbo S Cabriolet -Question for Dealers/VIPs

I am the Business Mgr, of a Porsche dealership. We give Boxsters, and Cayennes as loaners for scheduled maint, when we are out of loaners we do the Enterprise. We would do the buy one now, with guaranteed buy back. We would not give a car for free for that many months, unless we made some major screw up. We would not tell you to get the hell out, but would help you have something decent to drive, and then buy back with depreciation.

We find loaning Cayennes, sells lots of Cayennes.

Enjoy, we get to go drive the 997 at the US launch.

Re: Buying 2005 Turbo S Cabriolet -Question for Dealers/VIPs

isn't "guaranteed buyback with depreciation" just a nice way of saying

"buy ANOTHER car from us and we'll let you trade it in for market value when your ordered car arrives?" ?

    hehehehehh...

Re: Buying 2005 Turbo S Cabriolet -Question for Dealers/VIPs

Not exactly. As we all know, cars depreciate. We are willing to say what we expect it to be, based on the miles you tell us you will drive. You will pay for the depreciation, not extra profit for the few months you have to wait. So, no we are not treating it like two independant car transactions, just keep us in the position we are with the car you are "using".

Re: Buying 2005 Turbo S Cabriolet -Question for Dealers/VIPs

the only money i could potentially save from that arragement (if i buy the 'loaner' car straight up) is the interest

however, with 60-80k i could make way more than that with some clever investing...

Moogle, hats off to your investing, given the jump from a Boxster to Turbo S cab

BTW how much do you think you will lose on the Turbo S within the first 12 months?

What you are saving is the bid/offer spread ie the difference between what a dealer will buy a car for vs what it sells it for. If they give you a guaranteed buyback price then you are essentially paying to rent the car for the period. You have to ask whether you want to pay to drive a Turbo in the interim or not.

And on the question of what the Turbo S will be worth in a year - those of us with an order in would prefer not to know the answer to that. In the end buying cars is not about investing is it - it is pay to play...

Believe me I know the feeling - plenty of pleasure but more than a significant amount of pain too

Re: Buying 2005 Turbo S Cabriolet -Question for Dealers/VIPs

i don't think of cars as investments, otherwise i'd have purchased a 360 spider (yes nberry, you investment minded pro(vocateur)...)

i am quite friendly with a local dealer and was on their waitlist for one, decided for forget it and gave my spot to a friend, i would have recieved production time similar to the time for my turbo S.

in the end, the turbo S was more practical in the sense i can drive it anywhere, and if i park it and come back , there won't be a crowd of people gathered around it.

not to sound like a pompous ass, but cars are just expensive toys that i don't and never will see them as vessels for potential profit.

cars depreciate, thats that, i don't swap cars every 4-5 years, i buy new ones and keep the current/old ones immaculate, eventually i'll have quite a collection.
