Steering on Cayenne S

I recently had a 2008 Cayenne S as a loaner for my C4S, and the steering was very vague- there was a lot of play in the steering wheel before the wheels would actually move and the car would turn. While driving on the highway, I could jiggle the wheel back and forth without the car reacting at all, and during high speed cornering there was a slight lag before the steering engaged.
I've been waiting for a manual transmission on the S model, and I was excited to see the Cayenne GTS, but after driving the Cayenne S for a week I'm not so sure I want the GTS.

Car had PASM? That's exactly what mine feels like sometimes.

No PASM, it had the regular suspension.

Your loan car possibly had the servotronic steering fitted which makes the steering feel much lighter. I personally don't like the servotronic option and prefer the feel of the standard rack fitted to the Cayenne. Ask your dealer if the car had this option and if you can try one without.

That does sound like servotronic however it only feels lighter at low speed. As the speed increases the steering becomes much stiffer. Something that you have to get used to.

I have to ask the dealer if it was servotronic, but I don't think it was. It didn't feel lighter or stiffer at different speeds, it just felt like there was a slight dead spot-a little bit of 'give' before the wheels moved. I know it wouldn't feel like the Carrera, but it should feel at least as good as my 4300 lb FX.
