Same as the previous GT3, that's impressive (oo, it beat the CSL too.
). The R8's 3 seconds faster, which really gives testament to the power delivery, 4 wheel drive and of course it's great balance. Ya gotta hand it to Audi, they've done a great job on this one. (Kind of annoyed it's beat the 997s, GT3 but on the basis it beat a lot of other cars on the list even the Murci it's got to be good. Weather pending of course)

Just think little bit now about that amazing time around EVO Bedford track... Stig is here a lot faster in Vette Z06 then in R8. On Bedford R8 is faster then 599, 997 Turbo and GT3 RS etc. Only Gallardo SL is marginally faster-0.4s!!

Hey now... I am an avid evo reader! Now that I reflect on it, I firmly think evo should have a dedicated experienced driver to do their laptimes.

Under what conditions?
Did it have LSD option?
Did it have PCCB option?
Did it have X51 powerkit option?
Personally, I think in the dry a 997C2S with LSD and PCCB could get a 1'25", and with the powerkit 1'24". I think a GT3 could get a 1'22", a Turbo with LSD and PCCB a 1'21", a GT3RS a 1'20", and a GT2 1'18".
In the wet I would guess the 997 Turbo would be THE fastest car on the planet round the track. As others have suggested though I think Porsche is not given a fair playing field in most Topgear tests.

Top Gear is a comedy show loosly themed on sportcars. Very entertaining and funny to watch, I don't miss a show, but of absolutely not real information value, and you have to take it on that light.

One can't watch TG for new facts, Clarkson claimed during his first test of the 997S that Porshce wouldn't bother with a 4wd version of it as the 2s was that good
. But shred away the prejudice and entertainment BS and you'll get a good impression of what the car is like. The lap board is completely useless though, some times are set by the old stig, which was obviously a lot slower than the last one.Watched the episode, and I'm starting to believe Kreso has been right about the R8 all along..

No matter what magazine you look at, it is all entertainment, there goal is to SELL first, BUT that doesn't mean their isn't merit behind the numbers.
Remember it's not Clarkson that is behind the wheel. It is the Stig, which is supposedly former F1 driver. So is every number 100% on the spot...no, BUT I think the list is fairly accurate of each car's performance level within a certain variable. I have seen the show many times and the stig seems to be driving the h#ll out of each car each time.

I don't accept that Top Gear lap times are in general comparable. Although there have been only 2 Stigs so far (which helps consistency), the problem is that the weather and track conditions vary enormously from one show to the next...if there is heavy rain, that can easily add 3-5 seconds onto the lap time...this makes any comparison from one week to the next meaningless...
However the 997S and R8 laps presumably happened at different times on the same day. Not so meaningless in this case except that the track hadn't dried out all that much when the 997S went round whereas the surface water had dried up quite a bit by the time the R8 went round.
