    997 GT3 vs. 360 CS vs. F430

    Background
I'm in the lucky position to buy a new sports car. Right now I'm driving a 996 GT3 Mk1 Clubsport, which is my third Porsche. I'm looking for a car that is fun both on the road and on the track. I used to do about 10 track days a year, but now, with at 6 month old son, it's harder to find the time to go to track days. There are not that many tracks close to where I live. So I want a car that is fun to drive on a Sunday morning as well as a proper track day tool. I will not drive it on a daily basis, but I don't want a car that is too compromised for the road. My current 996 GT3 Clubsport is a blast to drive on the track but on the road, driving at less than eight tenths, it is more pain than pleasure.

    The alternatives
I have been offered various alternatives from dealers:
    Alternative 1: 997 GT3 ClubSport, PCCB brakes, MY07

    Alternative 2: Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale, MY04

Alternative 3: Ferrari F430 F1, CCM brakes, sport seats, etc. There are a handful of F430 for sale with similar sporty specs (MY05 -07).

The 360 CS is marginally more expensive than the GT3. The F430 is more expensive than the other two. I do understand that the running costs of the Ferraris are higher than for the Porsche.

What are your ideas and recommendations?

    Thanks in advance,

    fantasma

    Re: 997 GT3 vs. 360 CS vs. F430

I owned 2001 996 GT3 and 2004 360CS. Now I own a 599 and have ordered 430 scud. I miss my CS very much. What a car! The noise, handelling, steering, performance are out of this world. To me its down to F1 vs. stick. If your are comfortable with F1 then go with a Ferrari. 430 is not as fun as 360CS. It is way too predictable. Plus IMO 360 looks better.

    Re: 997 GT3 vs. 360 CS vs. F430

997GT3+PCCB will make your ride smoother than your current and you will have about the same running costs. So that will be the logical choice.

Logic aside ... 430F1+CCbrakes for your first Ferrari.
One year from now prices of 360CS will drop even more because of the 430Scud.

sorry, i totally disagree scud price will affect cs in any way-in fact , i think cs prices will FIRM up as the Pounds200k/$400k scud arrives and as the flippers and "look at me in latest ferrari" buyers discover the scud is far too hardcore for them...
    we'll see , eh

    Re: 997 GT3 vs. 360 CS vs. F430

You forgot that many 360CS owners will move to 430scud ... exactly the type of people that kept their 360cs and didn't moved to 430 considering the car too "soft" ... you will have a lot of 360cs F cars up for sale next year, and that will make the price to go down not up ...

tbh, i know of only 2 uk cs owners who have owned from new who still have their cars . only one will be exchanging for cs . the 1st owners typically tend be flippers and or guys who want newest toys . Luckily that means enthusiasts get to pick up the cars after a while
we have 10 Cs for sale in uk out of 119 total rhd drive. that's not too bad

    Re: 997 GT3 vs. 360 CS vs. F430

I test drove the 360 CS this week and am very tempted with a 3,000 mile model. The only thing putting me off is that it is rosso corsa. Salesman thinks it could appreciate if kept as a low milage and very well looked after example. If it was rosso scuderia or black my resistance would be crumbling.

    Re: 997 GT3 vs. 360 CS vs. F430

    Easy...
    1)F430 w/ CCM's, Racing Seats
    2)CS
    3)GT3

nice to see differing opinions on f430 vs CS. please give reasons...

    Re: 997 GT3 vs. 360 CS vs. F430

I personally think the Challenge would be a better idea, because I would think it's more of a fun stripped out car to drive, and I think it will hold it value much better. I mean look at 360 coupes versus the Challenge's. the coupes are dropping value rather quickly, whereas the Challenge is holding pretty steady.

    just my two cents.

In UK the Porsche is a good bet as the roads are so narrow. Makes driving a Ferrari difficult at times
