This amazing 500HP high reving N/A V10 engine deserves a sportier package besides the E-60. I wish BMW would make a small agile 4 seater coupe with it.

Just hope they de-Bangleize the M6 and the CSL version isn't as weak as the M3CSL was vs M3....i.e., deminimus performance improvements and brakes that fade too quickly for realistic mountain curves/track use.

Given M5 is seeking to compete in limo class where no muss/no fuss straight-line ability (just press the accelerator without defocusing from the conversation on the car's speakerphone) wins the day, I'm not sure M5's straight-line abilities (esp in 50-120MPH zone) will impress those acclimatized to SL55/CL55/S55's monster torque, which I suspect is far more accessible than M5's weaker torque band....

Its 7 speed SMG gearbox will be 20% quicker than M3's SMGII and will offer 11 (!) driving programs.
The article actually said that shifting times will be INcreased by 20%, but that was probably a typo...

The in-gear award goes to AMG, because of the superior torque.
But it's going to be interesting to see how they compare from 30-70 or 70-120 if they can use any gear they like, and the M5 can stay close to it's 8200 redline.
Big torque vs. big revs - I see a EVO test coming up...

I suspect when someone is commuting on a busy freeway while chatting on speakerphone (common use for these limos in major urban mkts) the idea of having to shift gears to try to find enough torque for a 50-100MPH burst makes M5 a fairly weak competitor to the 55's, the prevailing kings of this mkt segment.....and this BMW arrives 2 some yrs after current 55s have been available....I remain underwhelmed by the M5's specs for the target mkt....M5 seems to be an SLR-like mongrel...not remarkable as a commuter/GT car and not a great sportscar.....
