Does anyone else hate the steering wheel?

The best steering wheel in a production car that I've ever held was in a Lancer Evolution. It's basic, has a small diameter, and just feels like it has all the spokes in the perfect places. Not only this, but they also seemed to pack the airbag into the smallest center section possible. This is another plus in my opinion.

From the look of the 997 wheel, it fails on all accounts. The center section is huge, the overall diameter too large, and I bet that the center of rotation is not in the center of the wheel. (take your wheel and turn it 180 degrees while paying attention to your view of the instruments, you can see the tach well one way, but not the other way.) I don't care about viewing the gauges, I want my wheel in the same place when I turn it. The Evo wheel spins about it's center.

Worst of all the steering wheel has buttons on it. Are you kidding me? They seem to be making up for all those years without cupholders.

Is this really the steering wheel of a sports car?

Re: Does anyone else hate the steering wheel?

    Ahh No.

Actually I can't deduce from sight alone the quality of feedback this steering wheel will give...whether its tactility affords an intimate understanding of changes in road conditions or not....so rather than criticise on the basis of sight...I'll judge after I've driven

Re: Does anyone else hate the steering wheel?

I actually don't mind so much the look of the wheel in the C2, but the one in the S is a little worse. Overall I don't really care that much about the wheel.

I like the wheel in the Evo too - probably because I am used to the Momo wheel in my 911. Does your 930 have a Momo wheel also (Evo's is sourced from Momo)?

Re: Does anyone else hate the steering wheel?

Agreed - it looks terrible in the pictures

Re: Does anyone else hate the steering wheel?

I hope the Turbo and RS or which racemodel 997 ever get a new design, I like the wheel in the C2, but I like it to be WAY more sportier, the one of the C2S isn't so bad, but I do understand most of you don't like it....

This brings me to an idea, I'm going to draw some myself !!

By the way, hehe couldn't agree more ! I don't really know what to think about that wheel...but the evo wheel is awesome indeed

Re: Does anyone else hate the steering wheel?

I think you will find the wheels look a lot better in the car than in the photographs shown so far.

Well Yargk, you'd have lost that bet.
Wheel rim and steering column are concentric.

If you do not order the optional Tiptronic transmission, and/or the optional Multifunctional steering wheel (which repeats some of the telephone, onboard computer, and radio and/or PCM button functions on the wheel spokes) then you will get a wheel completely free of buttons. Where's the problem?

Re: Does anyone else hate the steering wheel?

That is what I also think. It looks terrible, the only dissapointment with 997 in my view. May be better looking in person...

Re: Does anyone else hate the steering wheel?

Yes, me! My favourite steering wheels - almost anything from the Momo range. Mind all steering wheels looked better before they had to put those namby-pamby exploding bags in the middle of them 'cos the Americans wouldn't belt up (seat belts that is - I think!)

I have a Momo Competition. It's simple and only 350 mm in diameter, like most momo wheels.
