Season 2007 - Porsche rules out F1 return

German sports car manufacturer Porsche has once again ruled out a return to Formula One in the near future

all they interested is money! lol!

Re: Season 2007 - Porsche rules out F1 return

Notwithstanding their previous attempts, Porsche's vocation is not F1. It is LMP1/LMP2 GT1/GT2 racing and rally racing (remember the Monte Carlo rally?). I would like them to return to Motorsports in those categories.

    Horray, sensibility!

Re: Season 2007 - Porsche rules out F1 return

    I'm not surprised!
Porsche is essentially a sports car company (although some will now dispute that)and it should be at the pinnacle of sport car racing.
It's a pity that Porsche pulled out of sports car racing in an official capacity for so long, and allowed Audi to essentially take its place (i.e. P1)

We now have to hope and pray that the ACO corrects the current gasoline vs diesel regulations and thus allow petrol engined P1 to be competitive.
the RS Spyder is an outstanding car, but it is a P2 car, and the ACO is doing everything it can to castrate P2 cars into submission, as it does not want P2 cars taking overall wins under normal conditions.

P.S. I'm not at all optimistic concerning the ACO and it's pro diesel rule shenanigans.

Re: Season 2007 - Porsche rules out F1 return

F1 is a waste for Porsche. I would say that other than the historical significance for Ferrari, F1 is a technical playground for manufacturers that place emphasis on the technology of their cars rather than the driving feel of their cars. Many would say that Porsche lags behind a bit on the techno wizardry found in other makes. I would argue that they are not lagging behind, but simply not trying to correct chassis innefficiencies with technology.

Porsche has nothing to prove in F1 and it would be nothing but a money pit for them. Honda and Toyota have deeper pockets and look at their dismal performance. Sportscar racing may not be quite as high profile, but better to win in sportscars than not in F1.

Re: Season 2007 - Porsche rules out F1 return

I was thinking of a WRC spec Cayman today actually. It's already at the 300 hp mark but the torque curves need to be drastically improved.

Overall it would be nice to see Porsche move up to P1 in endurance series racing after the regs demote the P2 from overall domination. They are going closed cockpit cars soon aren't they? Like 2010? Another evolution of the 911 Le Mans racer...

Re: Season 2007 - Porsche rules out F1 return

Yes, the ACO will reveal the future rules in November (supposedly). They want to introduce closed cockpit cars and allow for closer resemblances to the manufacturers street going products. (i.e. think of Porsche GT1)
P2's were never meant to win, but Porsche's Spyder bought about a real "revolution"in P2. The ACO was not amused and so now is after them with a BIG scissors.

Agreed. I don't want to see Porsche bankrupted by entering F1.

But I am struck by the pictures of current Ferrari F1 driver Kimi Raikkonen pictured in an advertisement in the last two issues of Christophorus (issues # 327 and 328) wearing a TAG Hauer "Carrera Tachymetre Automatic."

Is Kimi going to jump from Ferrari to Porsche? And is that why the rumors of Porsche returning to F1 got started?

Just say that I have an inquiring mind.

    Jim
