Mayor of London/UK calls Cayenne owners "complete Idiots"
And now the French want to ban SUVs and heavier cars with higher fuel consumption from Paris and other cities by asking a special tax for them.
Now the interesting part: only bigger SUVs or cars especially with 8-cyl. engines and bigger are affected, including those with Diesel engines. Interesting: french car manufacturers don't have any real SUVs in their model line and especially none with more than 6-cyl. engines.
At the same time, buyers of little compact cars with a special Diesel filter should get a financial help from the state.
Interesting: only french car manufacturers offer those little Diesel cars with that filter.
Now this is what I call clever, supporting the own car industry by making the public believe the state is doing something for the environment.
I don't get it: the state is earning so much money from fuel tax, so if a SUV uses more fuel, the driver pays more taxes.
I think this is the best way to make people "pay" for environmental damages.
And to be serious: the whole environmental discussion is actually only a kind of "excuse" for hidden envy. Yes, I know a lot of people who do something for keeping the environment clean and I have all my respect for them, especially when they go to work by bycicle every day for a total of 20 km and more. But I never understand how somebody who is smoking, can care about a clean environment.
I can't hide the feeling that, especially in Europe, the whole rich-poor discussion started all over again, maybe because the economy isn't going too well and politicians fear more and more the "masses".
It is funny: I pay a pretty huge amount of taxes every year, not to speak about fuel taxes for supporting people who probably don't pay even 10% of the taxes I pay, who might not even work at all or work illegally and then those people have the right to "tell" me what to do and what not?
Oh boy, honestly, Europe sucks more and more.
