Our New Leather - Good Care Product

    Found this stuff.

After a long trip (and now and then) I damp-wipe my seat with terry cloth to get rid of any Human smell/salt deposits.

Found this stuff to use more frequently than the big-time, thick, sticky, involved leather conditioners.

Just got some will let y'all know how it works. Unless someone here already knows and can tell the rest of us.

    FYI:

Re: Our New Leather - Good Care Product

I've tried a bunch of leather products including that one from Griot's and I've found the BEST leather conditoner/cleaner to be surprise, surprise, the one that Porsche sells. It really does a great job giving the leather that OEM feel/smell. Now my leather feels/looks as good as it did when I first picked it up. So I'd give the Porsche leather conditioner/cleaner (separate items) a try. $12 for both.

Re: Our New Leather - Good Care Product

What do you guys think of Griot's products in general? Thanks.

Re: Our New Leather - Good Care Product

I love every one I've used. The car wash, the Best of Show wax, and the speed shine! I have more, just haven't been able to use them yet. Sold my car recently, and the college year has started.

I like the "First in Show" carnauba wax. Goes on easily because it's liquid, comes off easily. Seems to last a while too. Used to use P21S carnauba but it's too much work 'cause it's solid.

Products in general? Stuff does what they say it does. It's fun to shop there. You get quality stuff no question about it.

I'm sure detailing fanatics with a touch of OCD will have assorted problems with the product line.

They have a lug wrench for us$17 which is perfect for equipping the car with a spare (used to be us$15!).

Re: Our New Leather - Good Care Product

Does anyone have experience with Griot's orbital buffer and polishes--compared to the Porter Cable 7424 and possibly one of polishes that Autogeek sells such as Pinnacle polish. I recently detailed my car with Zymol products (clay, cleaner/polish, and carbon carnauba paste wax). It looked pretty good when I was done but under certain lighting conditions, I can still see quite a few light towel and swirl scratches in the finish. I think it needs a slighty more aggressive polishing than I can do (or willing to do) by hand. I would like to achieve a near show room shine, if possible. Damn black car--I know, it's not a color, it's a job. It's definately a love/hate relationship!

I got the Griots polisher for a little bit over a year and have used it four times. It works well for me.

I don't know for sure but I'll bet it's the exact same unit but with different names on it. Especially today, you know, with a globalized economy there's very few individual mfgrs anymore. Do a little more research and maybe find they're the same units.

BTW, I'm probably waaaaay off here but I will NEVER take a machine to my clear coat. Car is very small so you're not saving that much time and effort by doing it by hand.

Yes you could flatten the clearcoat, which supposedly has a factory-intended slight "orange peel" to it, but then you've just "aged" the car's paint: but you made it shine more. Beware though: I believe only _Re_painted (non-factory paint) cars also have flat clearcoats.

I've used both rotary and RO polishers; it's very hard to mess up with a RO. Torque-y rotary is alot better for "cutting" also polishes well. RO has like "zero" torque so is good/gentle for polishing.

BTW, Griots has a DVD on machine polishing... .

i've tried it too, but found that if you use the Porsche leather conditioner, it leaves the leather glossier and not as matt as it was delivered.

Re: Our New Leather - Good Care Product

For leather, I have used the Griots and was pretty happy with it, but Sonus is the best. Leaves the best OEM smell and no gloss.

In terms of swirls, its very hard to get out with a hand polish. Definitely a RO machine (Griots is the portercable) will help a lot. The polishes at Griots are very mild. Just start with the mild polish (#3). You should be able to get almost all swirls out with this. Be careful using harsher polishes- very easy to do damage, even with a random orbital.

OOPS! planenuts4speed's car is black. Nevermind what I said above. I don't know how to handle a black paintjob.
