    Re: BMW

At least the exhaust pipes are truly F1

Just kidding, 500hp and 500Nm, no arguments here, its a remarkable engine.

    Re: BMW

Let's hope the first yr of production doesn't entail numerous engine blowouts, ala the M3 engine. Also, maybe BMW can put in some steering precision and brake pedal feel/fade resistance to make this a real sports sedan (from what I gathered even the M3 CSL never really scored well on these measures). And if BMW wants an E55/S55-competitive luxury/commuter sedan they need to also figure out how to engineer a competent air cond system (many Honda/Toyota owners have taken great pleasure in ridiculing BMW's air cond effectiveness). Aside from those minor issues, I'm sure the new M5 will be a resounding sales success.

    Thanks for the pics

I still cannot imagine this car accelerating from 0-200 in below 13 secs. Probably just marketing BS from BMW to generate interest among potential customers?

    Re: BMW M5

That engine makes more torque at idle than a GT3 makes at peak

    Re: BMW M5

well it has 4 more cylinders than the GT3

I know, but only 1.4L more displacement. This is pretty sweet performance for a high-revving motor without forced induction!

Why not? Depending on it's weight (did anybody see the final weight figure?) and the gearbox ratio, it can do 0-200 kph below 13 seconds.
However, I can't hide the feeling that this fantastic engine is in the wrong car. I mean peak torque at over 6100 rpm and peak power at over 7700 rpm, rev limiter jumping in at 8250 rpm...this is no engine for a limousine if you ask me.

I'm pretty sure BMW does have a little surprise a year or two later after the M5 introduction, maybe the rumored M6 or maybe even something more special.

I'm VERY curious to see the specs of the rumored Porsche sports sedan/4-door coupe or whatever this model will be alike. One thing is sure: I don't want to be in the skin of the development team, this is no easy task.
Porsche can't build a 4-door sedan and stay with power and especially performance figures below the M5.
On the other hand, they can't have the 911 top model 911 Turbo (not to talk about "special models" like the GT2 or even GT1) perform worse than the limousine/sedan.

We're looking forward to some pretty interesting sports car years...

There are a few particularities that may make it possible, on the outside its a 5 series with 500HP but in terms of acceleration it has:

    - its gearbox has 7 speeds & that combined with the fact that its of the sequential type
    - the engine can run in a very high powerband up to 8300RPM with yields very fast engine speeds and favors acceleration with 500HP at the top
    - 500Nm of torque starting at low revs
    - slightly/minimally lighter that the previous M5, I can't remember the figures but the point is its not gained any weight

I think it can but we will see. This high reving N/A V10 is a real beauty, to bad its in a sedan

    Re: Thanks for the pics

Well the E60 5 series already uses lightweight parts, not to mention BMW M experiments with light weight parts as well. So Im sure the E60 M5 will not be as heavy as say a W211 E55. Which brings another question into mind, which one will be faster? Also RC, the M6 is not rumored, it is. I think the 5.0 liter V-10 is a very appropriate engine for the M5, because that fufills part of the M5's job, to have the biggest, strongest engine among the upper crust mid size luxury uber sedan segment.

Really? Did you see any official statement about the M6 from BMW? For me, all future cars are "rumored" as long as they're not officially confirmed by the manufacturers.
Of course with little exceptions like the 997 and 987 where I saw official pictures of them many months before official introduction.

    Re: Thanks for the pics

No, no offical statement, but take my word for it. Trust me.

Just curious: how does the dealer order a car for which he doesn't have any specs, any order number, nothing?
Dealers always take pre-orders for future products but I don't think a dealer would take an order for a M6 because this car hasn't been officially announced yet.

    Re: Thanks for the pics

    Hi, Jean

Would you mind PM me with your dealer info?
    I'd like to order one.
