    Need Help Battery Issue

My battery was flat and I am having problems opening the hood. The red + lead is connected to the positive terminal on the fuse box and the negative on the door hinge.

I hear a clicking sound at the terminal when I connect or disconnect the lead...so there IS current from the battery.

However, no matter how long i push the opening button on the key, the hood simply wont release...

Had this issue oince before and it took about 45 minutes and a million pushes until it popped open...

I am pretty sure I am doing everything right...or am I.....

    All tips appreciated.

Use the hood release switch inside the door sill. It might be less voltage-sensitive than the key's remotely controlled hood release.

tried that ofcourse...nothing happens. when it opened last time it was with the button on the key....

    Re: Need Help Battery Issue

Push the key button while you add a small to increasing amount of pressure on the hood with the other hand. IOW, pretend to try to _latch_ the hood by pushing down on it. That might reduce the amount tension on the physical mechanism of the latch therefore requiring less amperage from the battery to make the opening servo function.

Just a guess on my part..., not sure if it will work.

    Re: Need Help Battery Issue

do you have a voltmeter ? if yes, measure the voltage between the red + and the negative: less than 11.5 V should indicate that your battery is really discharged and is pulling to much current, try to charge it for a while up to the moment you get more than 12V (without charger connected !) Hope it helps... that's what I should do...

    Re: Need Help Battery Issue

This doesn't sound right. After connecting the slave battery, you still can't open either lid?

Have you tried insterting the key into the door and locking/unlokcing the system? Last course of action would be the emergency release, but we're not there yet.

Can't get to the emergency release unless the hood is open - great engineering

Have you let the battery charge for a period of hours yet either using the fuse box method or purchasing a cigarette lighter battery maintainer.

There was a trick involved. IIRC, it works like that:
While the auxiliary battery is connected to the fuse box close the door and lock it with the key. Then pull the door handle or open the door with the key to reactivate the alarm system (the official way to do it is the latter). After that the remote or the switch should work again to open the hood.

    Edit:
Since you probably can't close the door with the negative connected to the hinge, try locking with the key while the door is open.

    Re: Need Help Battery Issue

Ok, finally I have found the correct sequence:

    - unlock drivers door with key and open door
    - lock drivers door but keep door open
(this makes the immobilizer think that the door is closed when it wakes up after the auxiliary battery was connected)
    - connect auxiliary battery to fuse box
    - unlock door which is already open with the key
    - pull door handle
    - open hood with remote or door sill switch

    Edit
