regular versus metallic paint.

I want to order the 997S in a black metallic paint but Basalt Black is not orderable for the first production vehicles. So I either have the choice of waiting a few months or getting the 997s in regular black paint. Does anyone know the difference between metallic and regular paint? Is there a difference in maintenance? Any opinions on which looks better - regular black or Basalt Black??

I had an 02 black 911 Turbo and I still have an 03 Basalt Black Cayenne. Black is really a tough color. The Basalt Black is the better color. Since it is metallic, it looks clean longer. My new 911 Turbo is Guards Red and much easier to maintain.

Have standard black and it's hell to keep it clean, every little piece of dirt can be seen. But when it's clean I don't think any other color can beat it

If I were to order another Porsche it would be a black one again (non-metalic of course

).

It just seems more eye cathing to me than the metalic. Don't get me wrong the metalic looks good too.

I just like the purity of its color.

That's a beauty! I too am interested because I am thinking about ordering a C2S near the end of the year. At the time I order I still will not have seen too many in real life. I am leaning towards balck, but having a Lapis Blue Boxster, I know the troubles of keeping it clean, but also know the payoff a dark car gives when it is clean. thanks for the pic.

I never would buy a non-metallic car, escpecially not a black one.

This car is very sensitive. Even in the car-wash, you get this little scratches. Certainly you get this on a metallic, too. But - on the metallic you have an additional clear coat, so its not that sensitive. You don't see the scratches not that easy.

Go to your dealer and compare pre-owned black 996, you will see the difference easily (and don't forget, the dealers used cars are prepared for being in sale!).
