    Ipod/Mp3 connection Here at last

    Well well after 10,000 threads Porsche have finally delivered. Looks like it is available to all P cars on orders from now on.

    Unfortunately it looks like a partial integration with only volume control through the PCM as opposed to music selection and volume. Any word on if it will also charge the player?

    not sure yet just how much sexiness the connection has in terms of integration with the PCM unit. Will let you know as soon as I can get the info from Germany.

    Since the PDF mentions the apple connection, i would imagine that with a simple firmware update along with the wiring, control of the ipod would be included.

    Even if it was JUST aux-in it's been 5 years in the making!

    On new cars only or available as a retrofit through Tequipment? I assume the latter...any idea on price?

    Looks like it comes through on FM radio rather than hardwired like the Dension. The picture on the PCM shows it in position '0' on the station list.

    ...according to local Porsche centre this morning - having seen the pdf - the iPod/MP3 connector is still not available for MY08???

    any ideas on the source of the info?

    The top right corner of the pdf states "Exclusive and Tequipment". Literally, all that means is that THAT DEPT is involved but it must surely be reasonable to assume that a Tequipment retrofit should be available.

    From what I heard it seems that it will be retrofit for even pre-9x7 in the future just hope that this now available version is retrofit for MY05 and not just MY06 at least.

    If its just an aux in, it is delivering less functionality that either Denison and Nav TV. And knowing Porsche, the retrofit if possible would cost more.

    It is just an AUX in. Hence the mention of the 3.5mm plug. Just volume control, no charging, no music selection. It won't be FM modulation though so that is a +. The bright side is it will work with any MP3/music player. If it cost more than $50 to retrofit it is a rip-off.

    What the hell. Turn off the radio and open the window.

    just heard from Porsche Germany that it will be available as an option to retrofit (and should not require PCM), but it's not yet ready to order - even for MY08 orders - as they are still working on some "technical issues"...

    The only confusing part is the apple doc limited to 3rd generation players. This indicates a interface capability unless its only for charging; if so I agree its really lame.

    Is there a web page with the info from Porsche? I called my dealer and he said they had not heard anything. He also said we get stuff later in the U.S.

    I want Porsche to worry about Porsche and standards - not about iPod - although I own only one of the former and two of the latter.

    Whatever Porsche does I would like to see a standard fitting. If there is none it us up to the MP3/iPod industry to do some homework.

    VW Golf: Getting iPod'ed


    German website "Auto News" is reporting that VW is eqipping the VW Golf with an optional iPod interface.
    The Apple iPod is going to be stored in the center console and you can operate it via the multifunctional steering wheel.
    The iPod interface is compatible with the iPod and iPod mini and ready to order from today for a price starting at 195 Euro (only available for the VW Golf and VW Golf GTI).

    My dealer has confirmed that this option (CES) is still not available for the GT3's.
