Porsche CDR23 unit - CD operations question

    Hi all,

Just signed up for this board.

I have a question on the above subject radio/CD unit for my Cayenne S.

Everytime - with a CD in the unit already - when I power up the unit, a "S" or sigma sign, a down arrow sign, and "TP" appears briefly and then disappear. (The sigma and the down arrow appear above the 8th and 10th multifunction buttons.)

"TP" - I read in the user manual is for traffic related radio signals.

If I hit the "S" before it disappears it displays the CD's total number of songs and total play time. If I do hit this button, the "S" and the down arrow and the "TP" stays on. If I do not hit it before it disappears, I could not get them to re-display unless I power down and power back up and hit it before it disappear again.

Same situation with the down arrow sign. This down arrow sign if I hit it before it disappears, it allows me random access of the songs on a CD.

Any body knows what is going on? Searched all over the user manual and it is not there! Is there a fix?

Re: Porsche CDR23 unit - CD operations question

come on rting, i already answered this for you on rennlist

it is just a worthless function that temporarily (for one power-on session) changes the display from displaying track number, to displaying track number as well as time played.

it does nothing else, it was likely not included in the manual due to crappy internal communcation in the company, as well as overall uselessness and obscurity of the function's operation.

Re: Porsche CDR23 unit - CD operations question

Welcome to Rennteam Roger! We're glad to have you here.

Sorry about the CDR-23. I have never used this unit so I'm afraid I can't be of much help. I think the postulated theory of a startup routine seems plausible though. There are often odd things happening during a bootup that don't happen in normal operation. An interrupted bootup could cause other unreproduceable events to occur.

Or, maybe there is something wrong with your unit, I don't know. Have you called your dealer?

Re: Porsche CDR23 unit - CD operations question

    Hi Moogle,

I was thinking that Porsche may have a software matter with this CD operations issue. The down arrow button, IMHO, is quite useful if I wanted to jump from one CD track to another. Who knows, people outside the Porsche AG may be able to add some useful comments. In fact, I have asked the same question in the Roadfly Cayenne board too. For me - (and may be others), sometimes I skipped visiting a board for a few days and I would loose track of which thread I have read or not or just have too many unread threads.:-)

    Hi GM Austin,

I have not spoken to the dealer yet but you bet I will - they will be the second last people I ask. PCNA would be the last people I call. In the forums, if I get information, it is probably only going to add to my discussions with the dealer or PCNA. :-p
