    Re: New 997

    Great job 330!!!

I see lots of nice details in the 997, from the med-kit & other compartments in the trunk to the shinny porsche 3.8 logo in the engine compartment. Interior "looks" better quality than 996. The chrono on the middle of the dash, is not only redundant since you can probably view it better form the PCM, its just looks plain stupid I would call it something else but I want to remain politically correct

    Re: New 997

    Excellent pix!!! Thanks for sharing!

Do you know if we can get the remapping of the Sport Chrono package without the chrono in the middle???

    Re: New 997

    WOOOHOOO!
40 years of beauty in one model

Carlos, don't tell me you still think it's 'retro'

    Re: New 997

Great new photos! I dont suppose you have more, showing the interior more? like the inside of the doors?

    Re: New 997

the front trunk looks much higher quality...

    loving the 'exploding' instrument cluster.

    Re: New 997

Thank you very much for the photos!

They demonstrate that the people in Stuttgart do not tease us. This is (as allways with a new model) the best Carrera ever! (And we're talking about one of the very few "Timeless" designs in this planet).

The photos exhude quality finish, power, agresiveness, beauty....sensations "911 Mood"!

The "competence" must be not very happy, I'm shure.....just waiting nonesense comments.

Moreover, I'm shure that performance of the 997 overtakes it's looks (By the way, for me not retro at all - I was having supper with a friend (A Porshe inconditional for decades), owner of a 996, that refered to the "retro" stuff....I just suggested him: "Just wait a bit and get your senses used to it....the "retro" is the 996!")

Unless retro means something different for you tah for me I have to say... hell yeah!

... from the retro frog-eye headlights popular in most cars long ago to the retro round shiftnob old past style 911's, from the retro outside door hanldes to the retro angula'r inside door handles whos trend went by a decade ago, from the retro english sportcar style analog round gauge on top of the dash to the retro integration of the fog lights and turn signals back into the bumper not seen today anymore in modern designs...

its retro all right, and a first for a 911 ulinke many people tend to believe, never have a new 911 version RE-incorporated discontinued past-trend styling cues from previous years just for the hell of it. Each 911 was more modern looking than the previous one in everyway while still retaining its classic 911 image... until now.

Some people may get fooled by these superficial things but to me these superficial retro touches do not make it more or less 911'ish, however, the heavier it gets the less 911'ish it really gets, the more artificially factory dialed in understeer the less 911'ish, the softer & flatter the seats get the less 911'ish, etc.

I think they should because many people would want the features of the sport chrono through the PCM but don't want the gauge in the middle of the dash. Since the gauge is not needed I don't see why they should force it, it should be like the sunroof delete option.

    Re: New 997

The only reason it is being called retro is because it is going back 7 years to a style it has always had. By definition this would be retro but, and sorry all 996 owners, the 997 is what the 996 should have been! There would be no argument about this being retro if it were introduced in 1998 to replace the 993. As good as the 996 is, it was designed, in a way, more around the Boxster, to save cost. The 997 is all 911. From what I have seen it will not have the same face as the upcoming Boxster. Porsche is doing very well now financially, and can break off the two models from eachother entirely. In '98 this was an option they didn't have. If they had, the 997 could have been introduced then. I love the 996, many variations will go down as classics, and at its core it is pure 911, but I wouldn't critizce the 997 as a step back, but a step that was prolonged until now. I doubt Porsche will return to the "fried egg" for any future models. It is something that worked to bring Porsche into the 21st Century and now its time to move on. This may sum up why so many of the compalints on the 997 are coming from current 996 owners Evolution, time to move on and let go guys!

    Re: New 997

First, great photos and thanks for posting. And second, yes, the car looks great, for those who like the overall package.

But reality here is, they blew the interior with cheap switches/buttons that look like the inside of a Ford, the cheap painted silver plastic all over the seats is just that - cheap, and the gauge layout is on steroids. Looks like distraction to me.

But again, the overall look of the car on the outside is ok (I still like the '04 C4S Cab in my garage), but the interior baffles me. I'll give them one shot at it once I see it in person, then two years to make it right. IF they can do that.

The 997 is the perfect evolution of.. the 993. Porsche just wants everyone to forget the 996 ever existed.

As a 911 owner of 4 different forward looking generations over the past nearly 20 years , incl the 993 model, I find the 997 extremely retro in a pandering , cynical way. Your statement seems to declare the 21st century is over and time to go " back to the future " !
