It makes no difference which system you have, the antenna set up is the same and thats what your tapping into.
Obviously I don't know how handy you are but if you have any" ability" I think it should not be to much of a challenge. Try a dry run, remove the radio to see how it all goes together.

OK the FM Modulator should be available from any decent car audio dealer but they are also on ebay quite a lot. The one I have is a Panasonic, I think initially designed to add one of their CD changers to a car.
The Antenna adapter cables I got from Circuit City. You will need these because the Cayenne uses Euro Style mini connectors and FM Modulators I have seen are all full size. So its a Euro > US antenna adapter set (2).
My base and saddle mount for the Cayenne is by Kuda (www.kuda-phonebase.com). They are great and should hook you up quickly, if you have a MK III you only need a phone base not the multi-purpose PDA base.
I also use a Monster charger for the iPod. I do not charge and play because there is pickup which ruins the sound.
Misc bits you will need, small single pole switch for turning the FM Modulator on and off, it may come with it.
Use drivers side fuse panel spare position 48 for power, this is switched with the ignition. Ground is any available bolt as usual.

I tried the ipod with a grifin itrip on a bmw 3 series coupe as well as in a mitsubishi shogun.

I once used an FM transmitter for IPod (long time ago)
My experince was an absolute pain trying to navigate and change the music on my IPod while driving.
Just wondering, why won't you consider installing the Kenwood music keg? I heard so many good things about it, and I'm going to install it as soon as I get a chance.

you should use the itrip-transmitter...
it works perfect. I have lot of experience with it, the old and the new ipod, both with itrip.
with itrip you have the possibility to use every fm-frequency between 88.0 and 107 mhz.
if you need advise, ask me...

I have a dension dmp3 player in my BMW and a Ipod for the home-use. I also have a wired FM-Transmitter in the Porsche, which I use with the Ipod.
The quality of the qired FM-Transmitter is uwfull. It sounds than a gramophon 80 years ago!
The Dension dmp3 is great (its wired through the BMW AUX-In). But - the dmp3 is not that comfortable if you have large volumens of Music on it. You only can search by file-system directory. With more than 6000 titles, its more or less not possible anymore to use this. What you can do is, you can create playlists, but I don't like to use this way. The ipod is just perfect, as it put an index on the titles and you can either scan by title, artist, genre or Album.
So - how is the quality with the itrip-transmitter? Is it CD-Quality?

it depends on the country and the city you are driving through.
de radio-stations have diffrent frequencies in each city. so you have to find out in wich region you have to use wich frequency.
In switzerland I'm using most of the time 88.7 mhz or 90.5 mhz. if you find a frequnze with fewest interferenze, it's CD-quality in my opinion.
