    Re: More 997 Photos

Thanks Very nice pictures. It looks good in Silver .

    Re: More 997 Photos

    Retro headlights? HAHA. sure.
    It's BEAUTIFUL.

    Re: More 997 Photos

Those hips... it looks pretty good except for those headlights and turn signal assembly imagine that car with the aggressive CGT style headlights

    Re: More 997 Photos

Exactly Carlos. Thats what I'm thinking - how about installing CGT headlights?

    Re: More 997 Photos

If you put CGT headlights on it, it won't look like a 911 anymore. At least now, it has the "proper" 911 look. It's about time too.

Guys, you don't understand. The 911 is not a Carrera GT.
What is wrong with the 997 headlights? I like them a lot.
Besides the fact that Carrera GT buyers would feel annoyed if their expensive toy would look like a 911 (or vice versa), the 911 is THE 911, THE Porsche. A lot of supercars like the Carrera GT will come and go but the legend 911 will stay.

I recently read a funny article about the new VW Golf V where the editor critized that the new Golf looks almost like the old ones. But this is exactly the point: building a generation of cars which can be connected one to each other, emotionally and technically.
Look at the japanese car manufacturers, it is almost impossible to tell which model is from which MY, which model is actually older and what kind of model they actually built.
I like the way BMW, Mercedes and Porsche follow their traditions and sometimes they add some more spice to it by introducing a new model. I don't see anything wrong with that.

The 911 phenomenon is in fact very interesting: no matter what MY 911 one drives, people on the street immediately comment "he drives a 911". This is what I love about the 911, it never is outdated, no matter how old the car is.

And 996 owners should be very happy about this strategy because their 996 doesn't look outdated compared to the 997.
And yes, in my opinion there is no immediate urge to exchange a 996 with a 997. But if you're into buying a new 911, go for the 997.

    Re: More 997 Photos

Car looks good, in my opinion very 993from the front and very 996 from the back. Those real wheel arches are so big that it makes the 18"wheels look like 16".

    Re: More 997 Photos

    RC,

I don't mean copying the front of the CGT and putting it in the 911 like the 996-986 thing, just continue the "style" only of the CGT headlights into the 911, the 911 will still look completely distinguishable from the CGT and the 911 would still look like a 911 in everyway, just like the 996 does, but more agressive, sporty and modern/current than the 997. Retro-design is for what you yourself call "lifestule" cqars not serious sportcars.

If I have time maybe I'll do a little photoshop experiment with the CGT lights and the 997

    Re: More 997 Photos

The CGT is a very good and aggressive looking car. I really like it. It just has one flaw. It doesn't look like a Porsche at all. The only way one can tell it's a Porsche is by looking at the badge on the hood. Porsche should of made it look more like a Porsche(as it did with it's first super car, the 959).

But the 911 has Porsche written all over and it should stay that way.

    Re: More 997 Photos

Here is a quick photoshop, which one looks sportier?

    Re: More 997 Photos

    another one

    Re: More 997 Photos

The front looks like a golf V, with those headlights:)

The round ones suit the car much better. Even better than facelifted 996 headlights

    Re: More 997 Photos

    RICE..

    Re: More 997 Photos

    good job carlos

the guys at porsche are probably becoming desperate... they now offer the 911 look everyone was demanding since the 996 launch (with it's "fried egg" headlights)... and what's happening?? the clients are nagging again...

but i confess that i belong to these groups. i needed some time to get used to the 996 headlamps but love them now (in turbo/facelift shape of course) and think that going retro with this newbeetle front is a mistake.

don't get me wrong. i like the 997 and i might end up driving one.

    Your comments about the 911 remind me of a quote by a great British economist;

The difficulty lies, not in new ideas, but in escaping the old ones, which ramify, for those brought up as most of us have been, into every corner of our minds." Porsche is in a time warp but knows it can sell the car buy just putting the Porsche badge on it.

Here in the US, magazines are making veiled references as to the old stale look. One magazine said great stuff inside but outside, same old; same old.

The 997 is so retro, it might have been resurrected from a cryogenic state.

Carlos, you are right but imagine how Ben, Mike and CF would feel. Also, they are putting the CGT front on the sedan. Porsche does not like to waste anything in its quest for profits.

    Re: More 997 Photos

    CARLOS - PERFECT JOB!

But - I assumed it looking better with the CGT lights! I think I like the 997 lights better as they are!

    @RC.

I know that a 997 is not a GT, and I like the new car as it is. BUT - I still think a little bigger evolution could have been good. I also miss a more aggressive look. The new car is looking like a frog. Nice and lovely.... but for me, it could be much more aggressive! So - I thought maybe the CGT lights would give this but definatley, they won't fit!

Sorry but its JUST the headlights and I'm not saying they should have to be exactly the same like I did for photoshop purposes, just in the same style or concept that matches the 911 style. I don't see how it can upset CGT owners if the cars look NOTHING alike from any angle and are clearly distinguishable even in the front. I think the CGT headlights are a great step foward in Porsche corporate lines since Porsche's have no front grills in b/w the headlights like the characteristic Audi, Merc, BMW, etc. and the new 911 should follow similar lights but with a clearly distict overall front characteristic of the model vs Boxter, CGT or any firure sedan. Its like the 430M using just the Enzo headlights.

I wonder if the facelift 997 is going to get those old fuch wheels back too

I guess it will end up growing on us in the end

    Re: More 997 Photos

Nice job Carlos, the 998 will be the anwears to all of us who think the 997 should be a bit more agressive, as soon as they sell the last Carrera GT of the lot
Having said that, I still think the 997 looks very good.

    Re: More 997 Photos

    nice one brunner

... scary thought now, in 19" they actually look better than the carrera S wheels

    Re: More 997 Photos

With the CGT headlights, the car reminds me of the TVR T350

I don't think it's the answer you wanted to hear but, IMO, whilst the left hand image is unmistakeably a Porsche, if you took the crest off the right hand car it could easily be a ........Ferrari!

    Re: More 997 Photos

Is this the 997 facelift (997 MK II) ?

    Looks good though
