Ever heard of the term 'Heavily Disguised' ? that's what they want you to see for now.

You can't "disguise" the missing air extraction vents.

GT2Driver:
Perhaps more realistic with full fuelweight around 1450 as the 991 GT3 RS was 1461 kg. It would still be quick
GT2RS or whatever name it will have will be heavier than GT3 RS. The power/weight ratio however...

thanks for telling me, obviously i have never heard of 'heavily disguised':::::)))))
Well, even if the weight was an unimpressive 1500 kg (nominal GT3 RS weight of 1420 kg plus 80 kg), if the mooted 650-700 hp figure turns out to be anywhere near the mark, the power to weight ratio would be in the 2.1-2.3 kg/hp ballpark...for comparison, the 918 is at roughly 1.85 and the 991.2 Turbo S at 2.75...

olli:PS: if I read the regs correctly, only 100 road cars for homologation are required for GTE pro cars (for "large" manufacturers such as Porsche): Spyderidol, you may want to double-check this.
If true, this would set a very low bar in terms of the minimum size of any limited edition road car.
Yes, they changed this recently to "facilitate" entries such as the new Ford GT40.
I'm sure Porsche will build more than the 100 required, but how many more is anyone's guess.
fritz:Leawood911:Getting that last five percents is always the difference between boys and men.
Not a question of extensive training and practice then?
No, Extensive training and practice lets you get 97-98% out of the car. Getting 99-102% out of what the car's capable of takes surety of self, understanding and then disregard of physical consequences to mistakes and the drive to beat something (other competitors, yourself, god...). You can't train for it or practice it. It's there or it isn't.

A bit too early to reveal every bits and pieces of the car till (3/2017) comes, don't you think
It is indeed too early for the cars to be driving around without camouflage, which is one reason that I doubt that the pic really shows a GT2 prototype. Another being the fact that the exit vent for the central front radiator is missing, suggesting that the car shown has neither the engine output nor the front end downforce that water-cooled GT2s have had up until now, as that vent played a critical role in reliably achieving both of those outcomes. The lack of this vent might have been compensated for by the two vents on top of the front wings, a la 991 GT3 RS, but the car shown in the pic also doesn't have these vents.
If they do offer an A/C delete, this hood should be optional
I don't see the connection between a GT1 style hood and AC delete. The GT1 road cars had an AC system installed, and the large extractor vents in its hood in fact served the same purposes as the GT2's centre exit vent, except the GT1 didn't have a front trunk so there was plenty of room under the hood for ducting.

Kobalt:Gotta have a GT1. I hopefully will find one in a barn this year.
Here you go, not in a barn but soon in Monaco:

Leawood911:Nice red '92 RS for sale as well. More my speed
I like those too. Actually, it's listed as a 1991 which means it now qualifies for the 25 year old exemption for importing and licensing (these were never US legal before).

You'll have to wait a few months before you can import it, if you want to go for it.
Its VIN shows it as an N-program car (= model year 1992), so it would have been built sometime between August 1991 and July 1992. Its auction listing as a '91 would suggest that it was first registered by December 1991 latest.

Gonna plonk this here from the other thread.... will they retain the GT3RS type wing with those new air intakes or will it have a bespoke GT2 "style" integrated ram air intake wing ? The ones in the pic look pretty functional

As far as I heard, this is the GT2 RS, not the GT3 RS, AMS got it wrong.

Price tag around 260k...but this can still change.

Do you think this is intended to replace the GT3 RS (and be used as the new race car homologation) or in addition to the normally aspirated model for 991.2?

olli:The GT2 RS not to be a limited edition...that is new "news".
This can change... The 911 R was supposed to be limited edition, then they made it a regular model and then the leadership decided to make it limited edition again. One reason why the whole "green light" discussion was going on right before the presentation in Geneva.
Right now, the next limited edition is rumored to be the Speedster (if it comes...). Like with the GT3 RS, Porsche wants to give all interested GT2 RS customers the possibility to get one. This doesn't mean that there won't be customers not getting one, the old story of dealer allocations, etc. etc. etc..
