    I finally got to test-drove the 997! :D

Just got to test-drove one (C2). The experience was very nice, I had the dealer drive us (me + dad) around for 10 minutes or so.. that dude definitely knew what what he was up to with that clutch. now, i'm on the dilemma of buying a sample car or a new one.. which is around 16k cheaper with alot of options in (bi-xenon, PASM, sport chrono, sport steering wheel, auto dim mirros etc) the car has only 300km on it.. since i'm running low on cash n i had been waiting all along to buy one, i might even consider that sample car. however, the car was in guards red which i had never thought i'll like. fortunately.. it turned out to be very appealing for my dad n myself.

so should i consider the sample car? it looks brand new to me and it has almost all the standard options on the "S". it'll be nice to hear from you guys. btw, it's a 06 version. the salesman is selling it to us for around 15-20k cheaper than the brand new 07 :P

    Re: I finally got to test-drove the 997! :D

If it has the options you like and the color is OK I would say yes. For 15 - 20K savings that is great. Remeber once you buy a new one as soon as you sign the papers you have lost 15 - 20K. Sounds like a good deal.

    Re: I finally got to test-drove the 997! :D

    Hi Bon

Thank you for your post and your PM - sorry I forgot to reply back. I don't have many photo's of my car to be honest with you... Most of the ones I have are on Rennteam.... Not sure if you can search under my name. Will try myself.

I would buy the demonstrator IF I liked the colour and it only had a few miles on it. However, so far I have only ever bought new Porsches.

    Re: I finally got to test-drove the 997! :D

which showroom? Nice to see you like the car!

    Re: I finally got to test-drove the 997! :D

pfaff, their staffs were very friendly :P. But omg did he drove fast! haha.
yep i'm really considering buying that demonstrator. I actually find GR appealing to all ages, my dad is 65 and he liked the color alot. so i'm planning to see if the car will be sold out in the next month or so.. i'm craving for it lol. but it's sad that i'm 21 right now and does not have the cash to throw away. maybe thinking about the boxsterS which the sales person sugguests quite a lot. hmm.. but it's nothing like driving a 911..

To porky: it's ok if you don't have many pics of your car. i'd been doing quite a lot of searching over the past 2 days on it, and found out the black/beige combo is indeed pretty swt

    Re: I finally got to test-drove the 997! :D

hey bstew, thanks for your opinion there and yes, i'll be saving ALOT on the car if i choose to go with the demonstrator. it's in perfect condition from what i had seen yesterday.. so i might call the porsche person up and try to make a deal with him. maybe finance it over 5 years or something..
now.. i blame that i'm too young.. and my dad doesn't like porsche that much, he had always been a MB person.. still driving his 95 E320 today but he considered and ordered a E350 4matic a few years ago but got cancelled
so my bet is, suggest my bro to get it. he's looking for a daily driver and he earns quite alot.:)

    Re: I finally got to test-drove the 997! :D

Ask for the dealer to throw in an extended warranty.....because the proper break-in period was probably not followed. Start with the longest one available, and if he balks, settle on the next longest warranty or mileage depending how you drive.

    Re: I finally got to test-drove the 997! :D

he offered me a 4 year warranty for $8k CAD.. >< the car looks great as it is but for some reason he strongly suggest me to buy a boxster S which he said is not alot slower than the C2. it also cost around 20k less than the C2 demonstrator. so.. i'm not sure if it's still worth it to go for the 911. i might even settle with the boxster :P. i'm only 21

    Re: I finally got to test-drove the 997! :D

don't mistaken me btw, i do love the 911 more but at my age.. i think a boxster will be more suitable. if my dad is going for it.. then it's a whole different story . but it's too bad that he only likes MB... he thinks the CLS is better. ><

    Re: I finally got to test-drove the 997! :D

Get the car and save the 16k!

    Re: I finally got to test-drove the 997! :D

do you guys think a boxster would be a better choice for me? i'm currently 21 and just done studying my 3rd year in university.. and yes I'll be earning great cash when i'm out haha. so help me decide guys, i'd sat in the 997 and it is very fast indeed. but for a porsche newbie, will i be satisfied with the 987? :P
i hope you guys can help me out, however, i'll be getting the 911 once i'm out and work for several years. it's my future car

    Re: I finally got to test-drove the 997! :D

considering i'm 21 only.. i don't want to be running out of choices when i do buy a next car. this is going to be my first porsche and my second car. my dad drives an E class MB and my first ride is only a civic.. ya.. but it's a brand new LX so i could care less. any thoughts on my first porsche?

    Re: I finally got to test-drove the 997! :D

If you are only 21 and still at Uni how are you affording either a 911 or a boxster?

If its a parental handout then I would personally take neither. Wait until you can afford your own car, you will appreaciate it all the more for having to have had to work for it. I never took a penny from my parents, worked hard for every last cent and I have to say it feels so nice to savour your hard earnt rewards.

If you have already earnt the money yourself, then well done to you - I'd take the 911 but it all depends on how easily you can afford it, houses etc must be calling soon also.

    Re: I finally got to test-drove the 997! :D

    Bon,

I don't own a Porsche, yet..but I am in the market for one. Being in the same boat as you, I would personally buy the 911. Assuming you had already test driven a 987, did it meet your standards?

    Re: I finally got to test-drove the 997! :D

    TO Adam2S:
Ya, i'd been thinking about this issue since my dad weren't as rich as he had used to be.. so i was trying to downgrade my choice to a boxster. if it was my dad a few years ago he would have no trouble getting a 911 as a family car. Of course my dad will drive it as his own if he decides to buy one. but i have to tell you that i'll quite satisfied with a honda civic if it weren't my own money. however, me and my bro had decided to share a car for now and my bro had been earning quite a few bucks. (he's an engineer)

    and to Chapman:
I test-drove a 997 but didn't fully enjoy it since i only got to drive for so little. (i'm not very good with manual) however, when i sat beside the Salesman when he drove it for us, the car was pretty much what i had dreamed for.
so once i get a better job, i might start financing it with my bro. we have a civic so it will be neat to own one more car so we both get to drive at the same time.
and for the 987, i didn't had time to test drive that. i wish i did though.. but then i was in a rush that day and the dealer was closing at 6pm. ><
i guess i'll be back for another test-drive then :P

    Re: I finally got to test-drove the 997! :D

well before we had decided to buy the civic, my parents ordered a bimmer for us. but my bro didn't want it so he got a civic instead. (weird eh?) ya my bro doesn't like to take things from parents so he said he will buy a better car once he got his own cash. well i can't wait to get a better job now but the most my dad can do for us is to get us a boxster now. and i do think morally sometimes that taking pariental handouts is not something to be proud of. so i'll be good with the civic whether or not he is going to buy me a porsche. he said a boxster will be reasonable for it's price tag. heh.
i guess.. live with what i have now and maybe hope for the best to come in the near future!!
and ya, my dad wanted a new car and he ordered a new Eclass MB.. my mom just hate cars and had been stopping him from doing so.. oh well.

    Re: I finally got to test-drove the 997! :D

I have only bought cars with my own money. My parents spent a fortune on my private education and I thought they had been generous enough in doing that for me. I could never repay them for their kindness. Having said that, buying a new car with your own money is IMHO a more special feeling than having someone else buy a car for you.

But, it's your choice, your family so you know what's best!

If you do go ahead: as for 911 vs Boxster, both great cars. Why not get a Boxster now, it's a convertible 2 seater. I assume you aren't married yet and don't have kids. I would enjoy that and then get a 911 later...just my 2 cents...

    Re: I finally got to test-drove the 997! :D

perhaps a boxster will do me fine for now haha. ya i don't think my dad will pay all for it, he'll help me out and i'll be paying him back little by little each month. like financing but instead not letting porsche earn the interest .
so you see my point here now :P
i'll let you guys know if i do get a 911/boxster sometime soon. i'm still waiting for the new M3 and insurance on a bimmer is way cheaper than porsche in canada.
