    My understanding is it will be available in limited numbers later this summer. I think it looks sharp, love the orange wit the black accents. Awesome! This story has been on Autoblog.com twice this week now.

    To my eyes this is just an ordinary Boxster S with paint-to-sample GT3RS orange, coloured black rims, porsche original aerokit plus some interiour details painted in exteriour colours and detailing from porsche exclusive (e.g. painted headlight washer in black, black airintakes on side, etc)

    So,... if you wanna spend a fortune on a boxster it should be possible with the available orderguide for '07 models . To call something a special edition I think there must be some detailing not possible to get from the existing orderguide?

    I am sure you are right that it is just a 987S with special trim. These are definitely massive money makers (grabbers) for Porsche, but it sure looks cool. Is it worth the money that they will charge, no, but many will buy it just for the uniqueness. I personally wouldn't pay the huge premium but if it was reasonably priced I would consider it. I love the 997 GT3 RS in the orange, it is awesome and a track bread beast.

    Well stated, Eslai, I'm with you on this one.

    I'm also not crazy about the use of alcantara in the interior. It reminds me a bit of velour, which we all can agree has no place in a car or a wardrobe.

    I'm not crazy about alcantara on any surface I'm going to be grabbing or farting on. I don't wear gloves or diapers when I drive.

    I agree, if Porsche thinks a paint job and some interior changes make this more of a sportscar they're wrong. I want a 987 with more power, an LSD and some weight reduction before I'm giving them any additional cash.

    I quite like alcantara, particularly on seats. It's nothing like velour, which I agree is awful. I'm sure the alcantara on the wheel and gear knob feel nice and grippy, but will probably wear less well than leather. Nice on the shift gaiter though.

    I had alcantara in my Lancia Delta Integrale, more years ago than I care to remember and it was great, wore well, grippy and very comfortable. No need for heated seats, either!

    Fond memories of that car, including rushing my (then) wife to hospital in it when she went into labour with my daughter. I don't think she appreciated breakneck speeds through the many roundabouts.... My daughter is 18 this year and car mad. Unfortunately her dream car is a Cayenne She's definitely not a tree-hugger
