Beautiful Rinspeed Wheels: Only 20" Unfortunately

I've looked at just about every wheel for the 997 TT, and keep coming back to these beautiful Rinspeeds. I don't think I am alone in my opinion, judging from various forums' feedbacks. The simple design (IMHO of course) transforms the look of the car and now I realize those slats on the original factory wheels possibly are the main reason why the 997 TT just looks so hopelessly busy. Rinspeed only makes them in size 20, which makes it a no no for me. Hopefully if enough of us ask, they will change their mind. http://www.rinspeed.com/pages/content/frames_e.htm , email info@rinspeed.com .

Re: Beautiful Rinspeed Wheels: Only 20" Unfortunat

And of course, the very, very pretty car of turbo'S'.

Re: Beautiful Rinspeed Wheels: Only 20" Unfortunat

I thought they did them in 18 and 19".
I am a fan as I believe less is more. The car has very clean lines and modular form as have the Rinspeeds.
    BTY Thanks Cannga

Re: Beautiful Rinspeed Wheels: Only 20" Unfortunat

Nope, this style unfortunately comes in 20" only. I would get it in an instant otherwise, even though I haven't even bought my car yet. Know anyone at Rinspeed whom you could influence?

And you are very welcome. You clearly care about your P, and it shows.

I love the way they look. Check out:

    wheelenhancement.com

They have gr8 wheels and good prices for P-cars. They will exchange with your wheels and even ship them to you.

Beautiful Rinspeed Wheels: Only 20" Unfortunately

Wheelenhancement.com is my home page! Kidding aside, they are superb, but I don't think they carry Rinspeed's.
For Rinspeed in the US, one dealer that I know of is Peter at www.wheelexperts.com . He posts regularly on www.6speedonline.com .

And (of course) I agree, these rinspeed's are simply beautiful (beautifully simple?). There are many 5 spoke wheels around; but something about the particular design and proportion of this 5 spoke that makes viewers' response nearly universally positive.

Re: Beautiful Rinspeed Wheels: Only 20" Unfortunat

What is your main concern about the 20"s? Is it there lack of protection?
I haven't found the ride compromised at all. In fact compared to my C2S that had 19" wheels it is more comfortable unless you use the sport setting which stiffens things up a bit.IMO

Re: Beautiful Rinspeed Wheels: Only 20" Unfortunat

Yes my main concern is about a harsher ride.

Second, there is this perhaps not entirely logical wish to keep the car as stock as possible. Ok, now that I think about it, the reason is that I think the chassis and suspension, wheel, tire, etc., are designed together as a package, and I don't like to make too much of a change. I know, I know, what is "too much"? I don't know.

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Would you please explain this in more details? Which mode are you talking about? Is it not much stiffer with the 20 inch wheel in Normal Mode? Is the Sport Mode even (reasonably) usable with the 20?

Unfortunately this is the sort of thing that could only be decided with a long-term test drive because of its subjective nature. Essentially impossible for me, or anyone not willing to spend 5k for a test.

If I look at your car enough times though, I might just have to just "go for it."

Re: Beautiful Rinspeed Wheels: Only 20" Unfortunat

The 997tt is more comfartable with the 20"s in Normal mode than the C2S was in Normal mode with 19"s on.The standard setting for the 997tt seems softer that the C2S for some reason. Maybe an expectation that older more affluent people may be the ones that can afford the turbo and would like a sofetr ride?
However both are fairly harsh when put in Sport. I remember my C2S felt stiffer than a GT3 when in sport mode.
Obviously choice is yours. I certainly wouldnt hesitate a minute in fitting 20"s again. I beleive you do get a bigger choice of tyres with the 19" wheels but I tend between Pirelli and Michelin anyway who both do 20"
    Good luck with your choice.
Any other queries dont hesitate to ask!

Re: Beautiful Rinspeed Wheels: Only 20" Unfortunat

My us$.02: I wouldn't buy any aftermarket wheel if they were made so _Porsche_ wheel caps won't fit.

Re: Beautiful Rinspeed Wheels: Only 20" Unfortunat

    >>>>>>that older more affluent people may be

The latter, maybe; the former, speak for yourself!
Just kidding and thank you for the helpful reply.

Last questions: Do you use your tt as daily driver and I assume you've taken it on long distance drives and found the ride to be entirely acceptable, for both you and passenger?

    Hello MMD,
Don't know if you were referring to this Rinspeed. If so, I've been told by a dealer that OEM wheel cap does fit.

Re: Beautiful Rinspeed Wheels: Only 20" Unfortunat

Sorry for the slow response. I have been away for the last week.
I have had the car on a 300 mile round trip and all was well. Ran it in standard mode and comfort was not a problem!

On another note I must measure my centre caps and see if they fit standard caps? Although wheels are high polish compared to solid silver of caps!

    Cheers.

Re: Beautiful Rinspeed Wheels: Only 20" Unfortunat

Here are our 19's... Porsche center caps will fit!
