NO "small" Ferrari says Pdt Luca Di Montezemolo !

I just received my copy of "Ferrari Club" n* 10.

I'll try to translate what Pdt Luca said on march the 7th 2007 in Geneva Motorshow.

"There is no and there won't be a small Ferrari. We will present a new car in Francfort Motorshow at the end of the year, and I can say that it's going to be a very expensive Ferrari !".

It's my translation, but I think everybody will understand.

Not sure if it's good or bad news...

    Cheers,

    Gregory

Re: NO "small" Ferrari says Pdt Luca Di Montezemolo !

He said the same thing at the Detroit Auto show in January of this year. He did say there will be a variant of the 430 which many are calling the light pista.

Re: NO "small" Ferrari says Pdt Luca Di Montezemolo !

Any ideas what this "very expensive" Ferrari will be?

Re: NO "small" Ferrari says Pdt Luca Di Montezemolo !

F60! based on fxx test mules...

Re: NO "small" Ferrari says Pdt Luca Di Montezemol

And Jean Todt says exactly the same thing : "there will never be a small Ferrari".

Ferrari Club n* 10, official Ferrari magazine, Jean Todt interview.

    So byby project Dino...

    Cheers,

    Gregory

I guess it's too early for something like the F60 (which should be F70 BTW)...

    The Dino will come. Period.

It only won't be called Dino and never will be cheap by no means.

Re: NO "small" Ferrari says Pdt Luca Di Montezemol

The new small car will be called "Dino" and not "Ferrari", so both statements are true:

1.) There will be a small car - The Dino
2.) There will not be a small Ferrari

I had the same thoughts. But Ferrari will have a huge credibity problem if they introduce the Dino or whatever they want to call it and claim it is not a Ferrari. But then again, wasn't it Windeking who claimed that Porsche would never make a sedan? Oh, he probably will call it a sport sedan. BIG DIFFERENCE.

Rossi that would be shocking though if it was the F60. This is the 60th anniversary of Ferrari plus the 430's replacement isn't due until 2009 right? If that's true the 430CS could come some time in 08.

I'd do back flips if Ferrari shocked everyone with the F60 later this year.

Very interesting comments about the new car being expensive.

Re: NO "small" Ferrari says Pdt Luca Di Montezemolo !

430CS will come on 12th month of 2007..

Correct. And it will be quite expensive, so that was the model LM was talking about.

Just wait until Maserati plays the SUV card...

Re: NO "small" Ferrari says Pdt Luca Di Montezemol

I see that many people on this board believe a 'smaller' and 'cheaper' Ferrari/Dino will come out sometime soon. But my question is why ferrari even needs to sacrifice their marquee/exclusive status by making a car which will dilute their brand name, especially in the face of the recent resurgence of Fiat/Alfa/Maserati...

One word, profitability. They'll be able to crank these out at the Maser plant and utilize more capacity there. They're banking on it being a winner and with Luca at the helm it probably will be.

Re: NO "small" Ferrari says Pdt Luca Di Montezemol

If they are smart, they will start raising prices especially in the US. Why let dealers make they money when they can keep it for themselve?

$240k 430 light pista. Let's see who pays over MSRP then... And no more P bashing for depreciation.

Re: NO "small" Ferrari says Pdt Luca Di Montezemol

The new 'Dino' will not be a 'small' Ferrari, in fact it should be about the same size as an F 430. We're seeing words-twisting here...

For what I've heard the new "small" Ferrari will be smaller than the current F430, perhaps not by much, but smaller.

The big question that remains will be how Ferrari will further develop their only midengined model, which has become a little bit too big already by now.

Re: NO "small" Ferrari says Pdt Luca Di Montezemol

Perhaps the new front engined V8 will be 1 mm longer than the F430 , but priced $50K lower. Voila ! ... no " small Ferrari " - but have they said no " lower priced " Ferrari ?

I don't care as long as they shorten the F430 successor by 20 mm...

I believe one would only need to take a look at the Alfa Romeo 8C and imagine it a little bit bigger, with a cab-backward cabin not unlike the 599 GTB (as the two shares the same front-mid engine with transaxle configuration)..

    No thanks.

Leave Porsche alone for that game

Agree - Somethings not right when a mid engined V8 Ferrari is longer than a Corvette. Let's not even do comparisons of their limo-sized front V12 models .

Absolutely. All current Ferrari models are too big, by quite a margin. Don't get me wrong, I like the passenger comfort these models offer, but with a little less they still would be comfortable enough but at the same time the improvement on small country roads would more than make up the loss in storage space.

Re: NO "small" Ferrari says Pdt Luca Di Montezemol

would love to see a lighter smaller sized mid engine ferrari

even with less power..power figures are going crazy 500-600HP is too much

Re: NO "small" Ferrari says Pdt Luca Di Montezemol

I would replace by 997 in a flash if they introduce the Dino that looks like the one being shown in various motor magazines (looked like a concentrated 599GTB).
