    997 C2S vs 997C2S Cab- Driving Differences?

I posted a related question yesterday... but I left out an important part of it and that is- for those of you who have driven both the 997 C2S and 997 C2S cab, do you feel that the Cab drives much differently than the C2S - are you sacrificing much in the way of speed, handling, weight, stiffness? I've driven the current M3 coupe and Cab and felt that the Cab was noticeably more flexy and less responsive than the coupe, and wondered if this was true for the 997 C2S- Thanks!

Re: 997 C2S vs 997C2S Cab- Driving Differences?

I've driven both, although very little in the coupe - just the test drive in the dealer. I don't race my C2S Cab, and mostly just do 'normal' driving, but I can't say I notice any flex or handling issues whatsoever. The car is just a dream. I've had a BMW 3 cab, and it is miles softer in every respect than any P.

    Owned both

The differences are pretty clear. Cab is heavier and it feels it. Steering is less sharp than the Coupe. In the Cab you can feel a tiny little bit of flex through the steering when you hit potholes or railroad tracks that's not there in the Coupe.

By comparison though the M3 Convertible is a marshmallow.

Would I swop back and drive the Coupe in preference? NO!

    Re: Owned both

    2 differences:
The cab is noisier (positive point to me), the engine is better heard than in a coupe( wind noises etc are never disturbing), the softtop is great and you really don't need a hardtop.
The cab is a bit (really a bit) softer than the coupe, but is stiffer than the 996 coupe (taught i've read r-that somewhere).
I sometimes track my cab, and being no professional racer, the difference in stiffness never causes a problem!
out of more tha 100 p-cars i drove with my cab the 4th time on a trackday in the +300HP category and 6th place overall. My wife (never drove on a track before) won the womenscup...

    Re: Owned both

Before I decided to go for my C2 Cab, I was looking at a C2S Coupe pretty hard. Both drove like a dream as this was/is my first Porsche. For my type of driving and my family desire to have a drop top, the C2 Cab was the way to go. I don't track and I would say I am just an average Porsche driver. I really couldn't tell much difference between them.

PS. I now have the PSE on my Cab and I must say having the top down with the PSE roaring is quite nice.

    Re: Owned both

I've had both, now have a C2S cab. There is no doubt that the cab is a touch softer, but it is only noticable in a back to back drive. The minute difference will be gone in a few days. You will not be disappointed in the handling of the cab. As mentioned, the mechanical and exhaust, esp with PSE are better than coupe. Top down driving outways differences.

    Thanks!

That's what I wanted to hear- A) how noticeable the differences are between the C2S and C2S cab and B) whether the top down driving experience outweighs the (better) drive of the C2S-

    Re: Thanks!

I wonder, I would guess that having the top up further reduces flex, right?

    Re: Thanks!

I've only driven Cabs- they feel very solid to me. And the top down experience is incredible, IMO.

    Re: Thanks!

I've driven both coupe, cabriolet, and hardtop equiped cabriolet. Porsche has reportedly made the cabriolet 40% less stiff than the coupe. To be honest,--I'm pleased with that. If I want it any stiffer I can always select the sport setting on the suspension. There is little to no apparent flexing. Many report the 997 vastly improved over the 996 (cab).

    Re: Thanks!

One more point on the exhaust note ... there's nothing better than pulling down my street in the morning with the top down and hearing the sound reflection off a stone wall ... it is much more entertaining than the sound with the top up, and much more so than the coupe, which is of course quieter. You get the full impact of the growl without anything in your way.

That plus the fact that, to me, sports cars are naturally roadsters, means that the Cab is the only way to go.

Life is too short to drive a car with a roof.
