    Re: Cayennes in Moab

The following day we went to the Needles District of Canyonlands and completed Elephant Hill. That was so exciting, I am going to make a separate post for it. The photo above of Silver Stairs is on the Elephant Hill loop.

I will add that Moab is crawling with highly modified off-road vehicles. Some even come on trailers. Jeeps predominate. I surveyed my motel parking lot one morning and selected the Jeep below as the best example of the modified crowd.

    Re: Cayennes in Moab

Wow! what beautiful photos and landscape keep 'em coming!

My brother was there when a teenager in a motocross expedition with some friends... they got completely lost next week he will be going in a week long expedition in the mountains of northern Spain in ATV's, luckily they have GPS's now and one of the members has even done the Paris Dakar a few times so he shoulnd't get lost this time

Side note: I know this is not a Cayenne but still a 4x4 I took this shot yesterday afternoon with my wife

    Thanks Carlos!

    OK two more photos.

On Tuesday Jeffrey and I got up before dawn to try and catch good morning light at the Dead Horse Point overlook. Here is Jeffrey loading up his gear.

    Re: Cayennes in Moab

At the overlook the scene was fantastic. I took some photos with my little digital camera and a medium format loaded with slow slide film. Jeffrey used his previously mentioned Canon. Here is a sample from my digital.

    Re: Cayennes in Moab

Beautiful shots, make me wanna be there. BTW some of Jeffreys photos from his Cayenne trip to CO are in my rotating desktop wallpaper folder, I'll be adding some of these too

    Re: Cayennes in Moab

Thanks Carlos. The photo you posted above was great too!

Thanks , you have a PM.

    Re: Cayennes in Moab

One more postscript: gas mileage. I drove about 2500 miles on this trip, much of it across open highway in West Texas and New Mexico. At speeds which averaged 75 to 78 mph, my Cayenne S averaged 18 to 19 mpg.

On other excursions I have averaged in the single digits. So the conclusion is clear, Cayenne fuel consumption is completely in the control of your right foot.

    Re: Cayennes in Moab

GM, I agree heartily. I was very well behaved speed-wise for 3/4 of my 1200-mile trip and averaged 17.2MPG.

    Re: Cayennes in Moab

    Very cool picture Carlos

That's because you don't have a roof rack with a spare tire on top of your Cayenne.

With my roof rack and spare tire on top, it drops down to about 16 mpg at 70 mph.

    Re: Cayennes in Moab

    Wow... beautifull shots .
I am curiouse about how the vehicles performed , you both have air suspensions ,but did you use the stock tires and rims or did you change to more of an off road tire?

Makes me want to jump into my Cayenne and take a trip......But its still in the shop

GM has the original 18" Continentals; mine has 295/45R20 Toyo Proxes S/T hi-performane SUV tires. They're M&S and 149MPH rated; I'm quite pleased with them. See here for pics.

    Re: Cayennes in Moab

    Thanks Jeffrey:

Thats interesting to know . I was wondering how capable the stock tires are, and it appears that they have at least a minimal capability for offroading . Thanks!!!!

    Re: Cayennes in Moab

Yes GM I fully agree that the trails should be shared by everyone and in reality the "stupid jeeps" thing was more of a joke than anything.

Anyway I really enjoyed the pictures and stories. Thanks again.
