Removing Hard Top

So, I took your suggestion from last fall and rigged up a pully and strap system similar to the picture you posted to remove the hard top. The problem I had is that the top tilted backward as I hoisted it up. I had the one strap going across the top and through the open windows, and the other looping around under the rear of the roof connected at both ends to the hoist strap.
What did I do wrong?
BTW, my wife got a real kick out of my frantic call for her to come down and help me stabilize the roof while I completed the operation. She's convinced I'm nuts now.
