I remember reading about this a while back. I just checked the OM. It indicates if the vehicle hasn't been started or unlocked within 1 week using the remote control, the remote feature is switched off.
1)Unlock the driver's door with the key at the door lock (leaving the door closed so the alarm won't go off)
2)Press the 1 button on the remote control.(that's the central locking button, the small button closest to the light emitting diode on your key, not the luggage compartment lid button)
Now try to lock and unlock it. Hope this works.

My keys didn't work on my car while stored in the garage over the winter. When I needed access, I just walked up to it and pulled on the door handle. It seems to "wake" the car up and the keys work again.
On another note, I just brought my car out of winter storage this weekend. While trying to lock the car after driving it, either key didn't work. I had to lock it manually. After coming back to the car, the buttons on the key worked again. Weird.

FWIW,
Sometimes, for example, the cursor on my computer turns into a cross instead of an arrow and then goes back to an arrow.
I don't consider it weird anymore, it's just what the software does.
Same with this car; it's highly software-dependent.

Same thing happened to me a few days ago. I hadn't driven the car in almost three weeks.
Anyway, I unlocked the car door with the key and then closed the door and used the remote, which now worked again, to lock, unlock, and relock the car. I had vaguely remembered that the electronic key turned itself off after not being used for several weeks.
It's a pretty sophisticated system designed to thwart thieves, but sometimes it gives owners a minor headache.

Yes, I successfully used that method many times, too. So, if the car's remote lock/unlock feature is shut down to save battery power after a few days, there is no need to manually unlock the door as described in the manual. Just pull the handle and the remote is up and running again
