Tires and brakes are in my opinion the most important parts of a car... (of course you need an engine to produce power and a steering wheel to steer the car but you get my point).

but on THIS car , its  power gain > cornering  in the net ring  time improvement ...mostly via stronger accel after corner exit and higher terminal speeds on straights

I think power is less important here than many people think. You know how many tuned 800+ hp 911 I saw/experienced in my life and none of them were really that fast on the track? I know a guy who has a turbo charged (close to 900 hp Smiley) 997 GT3 Supercup, only god knows how he got this car street legal here in Germany Smileyand he isn't that fast.

New tire compounds work like miracles lately, it is really impressive what kind of massive improvements we are witnessing...

And there was a bulletin from Porsche to redo the arches. Mike

Does that mean that Porsche was supposed to do the job , like in a recall ?  I did ask my dealer . They had nothing  ( in the sense of Porsche asking dealers to bend the arches ) so they contacted Porsche ..... but I have not heard anything since this summer .

I did see that they corrected it on the  GT2

As to heating the paint up ...... my dealer  had the guy from the '' carrosserie '' for my car and we discussed it . He said he could not guarantee that it does not crack , because the bent is too much for the paint , even with all precautions taken .

Have you ever contacted Porsche directly about this "issue"?

You're crazy if you think manufacturers will give them old models to test with new rubber. It would be a marketing disaster.

They're selling cars based on improvements in performance. Sticking new tires on old models will destroy that artificial and managed gap that they have created.

Depends. A 500 HP Z4 GT3 will do 6:30 on slicks IIRC. You don't need insane power to set fast laps, you need aggressive suspension, sticky tires, and aero -- all things that could easily be done on the previous model as well. Sure, you need enough power to move the weight, but power/weight only gets you so far in lap times.

I think the extra 200 hp and 215 ft-lbs of the GT2RS (compared to GT3 and GT3 RS) is so helpful because it allows them to use very aggressive drag-inducing aero without it being slow in a straight line (to say the least).  This really maximizes the tires and cornering speed in a way that would be much slower on the straights with lower power.

So? If what matters is the current technology package why should we focus just on tyres as an alibi for the slow runners?

Tyres are a significant parameter but do you think that any idiot's car on the same tyres could do this super time? Definitely not.

In F1 tyres are the same for everyone but the time differences are enormous. Apparently other things matter too. As if proof of that was needed.

Next month somebody else's new car with the new tyres could attempt to go below the Porsche time. Let us wait and watch.

But for now let us revel in Porsche's latest performance achievement.

The fact that AP is posting this comment so explicitly I assume means he is feeling confident that all of the "below mentioned" even with the latest tire (or same tire specs as the GT2 RS) won't be able to touch it ...

I'm going to discuss if anything is needed in there opinion when I see them, but in October my main focus is on my own driving skills, doing the Porsche racing experience that they handle. kiss

Hate when people have supercars, but no skills, so will do everything I can to make sure I can use the "Monster" in a proper wayblush

Later this autum I'm thinking of going down to Porsche exclusive to see what could be done in customizing the car and at the same time hopefully have some good input from Manthey. But from what I've heard so far, the car is quit good "as is". A step or two tougher then the GT3 RS and closer to the Cup car settings (as far as possible for a road car anyway).

But my GT3 is optimized regarding camber and some other stuff, so I guess some modification will be needed on this car as well. But the GT3 has been going hard. One change of the engine (blowed the engine on Spa last year) three times change of front  pads, one time back pads and this week I had to change the front discs. THAT was not cheap, since I have cheramic breaks....mail But since I will drive Spa next week, it was a good thing I noticed it now. Spa without breaks is not to recommend. The new engine still drinks enormous amounts of oil, so let's hope it will hold together this year....yes

They will find many things to improve , don't worry . Their list is long and they like to sell Smiley

Your comment on having to change the ceramics is very informative as I always hesitate to order them , but then stick to steels as I do not want to pay a change of ceramic breaks . And obviously they are still not good enough to endure track , even if some people say they are fine ........

You can always put steel discs on your PCCB setup when your discs let go. I did that on the 997 and it worked perfectly. You'll have to go aftermarket as they are larger but Performance Friction provides them for example.

These replacement carbon-ceramic discs are supposed to be better than PCCB (solid material all the way through, unlike laminated friction surface of PCCB).  Can be fitted to car originally equipped with iron or PCCB.

They can also be reasonably refurbished 4 times before replacement.  Same discs used by Movit.

Well, new set of original dics allready on and the car is on its way to Spa. Had to fix it fast as the car was scheduled to be transported down to Spa today. And sorry to say, I don’t no the first thing about fixing things myself. I’m totally in the hands of mechanics. I know how to fill petrol in the car, I’m an expert on filling oil and I’m pretty good at letting air out of the tires, but that’s pretty much it....yes

Since I’m regarded as a fairly good customer to Porsche I could push them to fix this for me in time (including express delivery of the discs from Germany) but that left me no choice other than going (and payingmail) for the original.

But thanks a lot, really appreciate your input and tips. kiss And Gnil, I might just consult you regarding Manthey and what is good and needed and what is not. I’m an easy target for them otherwise since I don’t know enough to know the difference......frown

    But now, focus on Spablushsmiley

Is anyone concerned about having to constantly carry around a few jugs of water with them to every track day if they live in hot climates?  Wouldn't that be a massive pain?  Or is there something special about the tank?

Not sure this is necessary...it should last a full track day, even in hot summer months.

Also, there seems to be a misconception on how this works: Even if the water tank is empty, you can still race your GT2RS. You just will have less power (if it is really hot or whatever driving conditions which would induce some sort of a heat soak). At least this is my understanding from what I saw and heard.

If the water reservoir lasted those blistering NBR laps by professionals, then mere mortal drivers shouldn't worry.

If amateurs go  so fast, they might run out of fuel (or probably crash) before running out of water Smiley

PCCB is good if you're not heavy on the brakes (street driving) otherwise it's bad news Smiley

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 GT2 RS (2017)

This is the upgrade kit if you have the steel brake installed.

Replacing the rotors is not that expensive...but still not a bargain.

It was around 2.5k EUR per rotor last time I checked a couple of years ago but I think there are refurbished rotors available as well, which are cheaper. Haven't checked for a very long time, so maybe I'm wrong.

My understanding is that it last 3 laps of the NBR.  So, not a full track day but at least a full session before a rest in the paddock.
