    New Car Question

    Hello everyone,

I am in the market for a new Porsche and have been waiting for my dealer to get his allocation of the 991.2 GTS. I have been waiting for a while now and I have began to wonder if I am making the right choice. I know the 991.2 is nearing the end of its cycle and don't want to be caught with a year old car when the new model comes out.

If the 992 is going to be introduced in the next year would it be smart to wait? I am thinking about this both in terms of wanting the newest toy and not wanting the resale value of whatever I buy this year to take a dive at the end of next.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks all,

    Rich

    Re: New Car Question

I would wait, the 991.2 is really stuck between the last n/a engines in the 991.1 and the true next generation of 911 with a much needed upgraded interior. Porsche keeps raising prices and unlike in he past, 911 now suffer hefty depreciation and the new model will really push 991.2 prices down very fast IMHO.

    Re: New Car Question

That's what I was really worried about. I had a 991.1 S Cab and would have kept it for a few more years but I was hit by a van and the car was totaled. Luckily I was uninjured. The car totally saved me.

Hopefully the new model is unveiled next year and available in 2019. I would rather not wait 2 more years.

    Thanks for the advice.

    Re: New Car Question

Maybe grab a 2-3 year old 991.1 while waiting... Or better grab a 13-14 California...

    Re: New Car Question

Not a bad idea. It crossed my mind and I bet I can get one in the high 70s if I'm lucky.

I think I want a coupe for this one and it has to be a manual so the california wont fit the bill.

    Re: New Car Question

That sounds right. If I recall, they did a mixed year when they went from the 997 to the 991. It is possible they new model does the same. Either way there is a good chance that it will be close to 2020 before all said and done.

Also considering offering a low ball number on something they have on the lot.

    Tough decisions.

try to get a GT3 Mk2 and never look back

This would certainly be the wisest choice but I'm afraid he needs the backseats...or am I wrong? Smiley

No need for back seats here. I would want that GT3 if they offered it with the touring package thats rumored. I am not a fan of the spoiler.

Seriously: If you don't need the rear seats, get the GT3. Completely different beast. Forget about the wing, you will get used to it. When the touring package is coming, it could be too late to get one (GT3).

    Re: New Car Question

I think you may have a good point. I can ask my dealer. He said he was going to have a hard time getting a GTS so I'm not sure he will have any GT3s coming his way and if he does I can probably forget about getting any sort of a discount. On the other hand, it will be something I wouldn't mind keeping for a while.

    Thanks for the advice.

I seriously doubt the dealer cannot get you a GTS...

I agree, they can make as many as you want

GTS certainly shouldn't be a problem but I do not know what allocations US dealers have. yes

I would check other dealers. Fairfield Porsche has three GTSs - Coupe and Targa configurations.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm checking it out.

    Re: New Car Question

The GTS is a daily drivable car. The GT3 is a different story. If you have other cars I would prefer the GT3, if this is your main driver go for the GTS

Depends on where you live. In Bavaria, a GT3 as a daily driver could be a challenge (winter time) but otherwise, I do not see a real problem here, especially if the car has the front lift. Also, there is the touring package...even more suitable for a daily driver. The GTS actually makes only sense in AWD flavor but even the 2WD version has enough traction to make drivers happy. I would never get the GTS though if I could get the GT3 and wouldn't need the rear seats.
