Re: Anyone disappointed after PSE install and other q?

    Hi DSPilot,

do you have instructions on how to do that? I have my instructions from Rolf, and I just want to compare to see if its any different.

    thanks

Re: Anyone disappointed after PSE install and other q?

    Should be standard.

Re: Anyone disappointed after PSE install and other q?

Before handing out this advice, have you stopped to consider the impact of using a non-Porsche exhaust upon your warranty? The last thing anyone would want is for their OPC to refuse to cover a repair on the grounds that the warranty is void.

Re: Anyone disappointed after PSE install and other q?

Agreed. I seem to remember a comment in a thread where the paint on a rear fender had discoloured due to heat from a-non OE exhaust.

Re: Anyone disappointed after PSE install and other q?

Any sound samples of a Cargraphic exhaust install?

Re: Anyone disappointed after PSE install and other q?

I did the PSE "mod" on day one. Now, I smile every time I start the car. Sound is frickin' amazing on my S.

I agree with the other poster that suggested that PSE should be standard on 997s.

    Sounds better after 3000 miles

The sound has matured a lot in a short space of time. Day 1 it sounded "tinny", but now 3K miles later the note has gone deeper and it sounds more like a dive-bombing Messerschmitt on full throttle. Glorious! Time to put the flying helmet, the sheepskin jacket and goggles on, and put the soft top down for one last crazy run before the snow turns up again. (You can believe the last part)

Any minute now someone will show us another of those photographs of a car built south of the Alps whose entire paintwork has discolored due the heat resulting from the use of a non-OEM exhaust.

Re: Anyone disappointed after PSE install and other q?

I just watched Miami Vice the Movie. No porsche showing up. But Sonny and Tubbs were tooling around in a F430 Modena. And flames was coming out of the exhaust.

Question: Is this hollywood magic, or can you get exhaust that shoots flames! I want to know.

Re: Anyone disappointed after PSE install and other q?

not disappointed, but I want MORE :-) the thought of the Tubi exhaust and headers is sooooooooooooooo tempting!

Re: Anyone disappointed after PSE install and other q?

Thanks. So what is the purpose of the flames? Or is it a by product of something else going on with the exhaust?

Probably means the fuel mixture is too rich .
There is too much fuel to evaporate into the available combustion air, therefore does not get burned and when it exits the exhaust , it comes in contact with oxygen and ignites from the exhaust heat . BANG.
( Proves that the Gallardo has a lousy air flow sensor ) Lol

Re: Anyone disappointed after PSE install and other q?

It's called a flamer kit, and you can buy one for any car.

Re: Anyone disappointed after PSE install and other q?

The best exhaust was the one I had on my 1981 turbo. When upshifting a blue flame would come out of the exhaust. (Trust me, this was no flamer kit). My exhaust system was simple,--downstream of the turbo was a length of exhaust pipe, the length of which was about 1-1/2 times the width of the 911. From the turbo,--straight out with one 180* bend. The turbo muffled the noise suitably (but oh, so nice), and when running 'just right,' was accompanied by the blue flames. Never had a better sounding exhaust.

Re: Anyone disappointed after PSE install and other q?

Both my modified VMax and my Laverda Jota have flatslide carbs. Instead of a rubber diaphram relying on the engine to suck open the piston, these flatslides have a wire connected to your right fist that pulls open a slide. Thus you have complete control over how much petrol you dump in the engine at any time, and have the ability do so regardless of whether the engine is running.

A friend once push started the Laverda and it set his jeans on fire. All I saw in the mirror as I motored away was him standing there waving me off, oblivious to the flames licking at his legs.

With the Vmax I mainly use it to do detonations. A particularily memorable one, was when a pillion and myself spotted a plooky little 15 year old boy in school uniform half way across the road. I killed then engine, and coasted apon him whilst holding open the throttle. Then just as we slipped behind him, still doing a good 30mph, I reignited the motor, there was a huge bang like a gunshot! Flames several feet long shot out the exhaust, and this kid jumped at least 2 feet in the air. The technical description would be that he "spazzed out".

Still makes me chuckle when I think about it. But then I am a very bad person...

Re: Anyone disappointed after PSE install and other q?

Imagine an Austin Allegro with a flamer kit??? Someone should build that. I for one would pay good money to see it!

Re: Anyone disappointed after PSE install and other q?

Hi dnp_now, regarding pse cutoff switch. very simple to do. i talked with the service manager at newport beach,ca porsche and he said simply cut the green/grey wire that runs from the switch-over valve to the DME control module(page 10 of 16 of technical information,Exhaust system/sport exhaust system(I No.XLF). use a two lead switch (toggle, push on-off,ect)and attach a wire to each pole of the switch. soldier one wire to each side of the cut green/grey wire.i installed the switch in the ashtray at the recommendation of other owners. the wires can easily be tucked under the center console. thats it. if you dont have the porsche technical information, you should be able to get it from you dealer without too much trouble.

Re: Anyone disappointed after PSE install and other q?

    Thanks DSPilot!

Now i'm just waiting for the PSE part to arrive. Maybe in 1-2 weeks. I hope this will make me fall in love with my 997s all over again! It's almost 1.5yrs old. And the honeymoon aint over yet!

Re: Anyone disappointed after PSE install and other q?

question for those who installed the PSE after. if u just install the PSE without wiring the switch does that mean it'll be loud all the time or u still need to do the ''trick'' mentioned above?
