Re: R8 Sports Car at New York City Audi Forum opening

As long as I fit in, thats all that matters to me.

the car is growing on me...but at a price of 120k euros plus options (spain) i find it a bit too expensive for what it is

Just saw the R8 in New York. IMO it looked much better than the pictures I've seen. While I was impressed, it may be priced too high, unless its performance is superior to a 997S, which costs under $100k USD.

The Sales Rep I spoke to, mentioned a V10 version would be announced shortly, selling for about $150k USD. Again, while it looks like a Quality vehicle, customers will not want to spend that much on an Audi, which really doesn't have the same kind of reputation and Prestige as Porsche - at least here in the US. Now if the V10 version (w/500hp) were offered for $110-120USD, maybe they would have a chance.

In addition, why would Audi create a vehicle with specs of a Gallardo and then sell it for less? Is Audi planning to sell Lamborghini?

Anyway, IMO it is a nice effort from Audi.

Re: R8 Sports Car at New York City Audi Forum opening

It looks great, but does anyone else think it actually looks a bit to racey for the streets, thats what I always thought was so great about the 911, its racey, but, still sort of fits in with its surroundings. Also why the italian exotics, althouth they look awesome, never appealed to me much, they did not seem to fit in with the surroundings. Sort of seemed like an older guy with a young trophy wife, saying look at me and see whom I am with.

Re: R8 Sports Car at New York City Audi Forum opening

Audi's don't sell here in the states like Mercedes, BMW and Porsche's do. I think the car is too radical looking and, if at all over priced, could be a flop here. And no one will spend 150k on a V10 Audi.

The car looks strange to me with that carbonfibre panel that cuts the car in half.
Raw back and front, no doubt, and impressive numbers. However, the price will be the same a s a fully specced 997 4S Cabrio in Denmark, which IMO will make the R8 a very rare car on our roads.
This aint a Porsche, and even tho it has BHP like a GT3, it just isnt one.
Had it been priced close to a 987S, I might have considered one as an alternative to the P. But at almost twice the price? LOL!
As far as I'm concerned this (beautiful) car has a LOT to prove, to be worth what they are asking - and I still need to drive or hear about a true drivers car from Audi.

Re: R8 Sports Car at New York City Audi Forum open

    Dr Phil,

For me the car does not look strange.

Moreover, I find it .....let's say "different".

But I cant agree more with you in the sense that it has to prove in the real world its performance. Until then, I'll patiently wait...At this moment, for me, a nice proposition, but rather overpriced....for 140K euro (or slightly more), a "decent" almost new Gallardo can be found.

Re: R8 Sports Car at New York City Audi Forum open

Yes for that price I would prefer to have second hand Gallardo.

Byron. Exatly. It seems pricey considering it is "only" an Audi.
Audi builds nice cars with usually great build quality, but the Audi brand cannot compare to P, F or Lambo IMO. Hence the R8 seems too expensive.
    But who knows?

I specially like your last sentence "Who knows?"....can we still have faith?....I'd be so happy to see a real (or reasonable) performer...but, unfortunatelly, in this past times, the reality show us, that we all times expect such thing.

And in the end we get a boring, "predictable" and slightly higher performance on "new" releases (unless you go to real "really light" or "really expensive" performers)....I would pray that the performance of the central engine R8 could change "a bit" these state of reality....but I need faith for that feeling.....(too much weigth, less power than expected, and too high price for the bundle)

To be sincere, I'm personaly considering two possible attitudes (and really bored about the "traditional sports cars" -which are no longer "sports", but rather "familiar"-):

1.- Being unresponsable: Spend loads of money instead of making a serious investment, in the new Murci, and enjoy life.

2.- Being responsable: Continue with my 977 and Daimler and buy an Ariel Atom (or Radical, Gardner Douglas or similar) to really enjoy driving, and seriously "go fast" in the track, making investments where they should be done.

In this life, decisions have to be done everyday....but if, as me you're a vicious of cars, sometimes thoose decisions get almost impossible.(what is best? the fantastic lines of a Lambo or the unbeateable performance of a Radical in spite is only track usable?....

Re: R8 Sports Car at New York City Audi Forum opening

The Audi R8 is mean looking....I would be up for one if the it wasn't as badly overpriced as it is....I think there will be the risk of a flop for Audi on this one....the competition in the same price range as the R8 is very tough!

Re: R8 Sports Car at New York City Audi Forum opening

I don't care about all the technology and performance, that's one of the ugliest cars I've ever seen.
