    Need advice please!

    Hello Ferrari lovers

I currently own a 997S convertable and I am anxiously awaiting the 997TT convertable version to come out so I can upgrade. I have to admit that in the last couple of weeks I have been looking more and more towards getting an F430 Spider instead. The only thing that is holding me back is the reliability issue.

I have two questions for the Ferrari crowd and please provide as much details as possible and dont forget to be honest with me I dont want to make an expansive mistake:

    1. How reliabale is the car? I will use it as a daily driver in heavy traffic and under hot conditions. To give you an idea, my current car which is one year old has 22,000Km on the odo and has been so far faultless. I would be expecting the same trouble free motoring experiance from the Ferrari.

    2. I belong to the old school and I believe that a sport car should be a manual , however my local F dealer has been very persistant in trying to convince me to get the F1 system. Is it that good?

Sorry about my long post but I really need your help to make up my minde. Thanks guys

    Re: Need advice please!

Not unless money is no object I would think that it is better to have some other daily driver. The car is very reliable and especially with a full warranty you really have nothing to worry about. IMO the dealer is pushing an F1 because they can get their hands on one more readily. Get what you want not what they want you to have.

    Re: Need advice please!

Keep One thing in mind Yarub, you live in what most consider a harsh climate region, where its very dusty and temperatures exceed 40 degrees Celsius for six months or more and in July & August temps hover around 50.

Geee, thanks for telling me that ha, I did not notice how hot and dusty the weather is outside, must be the fasting in Ramadhan Seriously, did you had any previous experiance with the F cars in the ME driving conditions?

    Re: Need advice please!

    Ramadan kareem yarub

I was at the jeddah raceway two weeks ago (national day) and had a chat with a guy who owns both 996TT and F430.

I asked him the exact same question: can I use an F430 on a daily basis. His reponse was "forget it, for daily use you need a Porsche"

    Re: Need advice please!

Yarub I would not use a 430 Spider as a daily car. But I also would not use a 997TT as a daily car. In my mind, driving around in a manual high perf car in traffic is about as stupid as one can get.

Buy yourself a good daily car which is comfortable to sit in traffic, has plenty room, safe and gives you peace of mind. Neither the 997TT or 430 Spider provide you with those attributes.

    Like a Mini Cooper!!!!

    Re: Need advice please!

    Here is my evolved rule:

If your Ferrari is for show and low low miles ....F1 (you probably won't be comfortable with a 6 speed)

If your Ferrari is for fun ....6 speed

If your Ferrari is for racing ....maybe F1 if you're fast enough (and prepared for the increased costs) to be able to take advantage of the fractionally faster shifting at racing speeds, never met anyone yet who can though (well maybe just one person)

If maintenance is an issue..then 6 speed.

Nick, we all know you own a Cayenne and a Mini Cooper.

We're just trying to remember what your third car is.

    Re: Need advice please!

the ferrari is reliable , but not as reliable as a porsche of course, the latter is a tank. i would go for the ferrari specially since there is nice roads in ksa..

    Re: Need advice please!

i would not recommend doing 20k a year in it though........

i was able to drive my f430 on an every day basis if i chose to....however it is not practical .....hence the requirement of one or two additional cars required for daily use.

It is. When not in service, I drive it if there is a need for a SUV. Otherwise, the Mini is my car of choice. It really is a blast to drive.

    Cooper S? JCW? Cab?

nberry, even though the Mini is a blast, have you seen the side impact test for torso and pelvis/leg injuries?

    Please take a look:

    Exactly

If want maximal active/passive safety, need to commute via 997TT and/or latest-gen S/CL (prob less active safety vs 997TT but prob superior passive safety w/higher ride ht vs SUV impact forces vs driver's head/neck; more advanced airbag systems/seat structures/head restraints; TeleAid, etc etc)....have never been convinced any other mfr's products/models offer similar levels of real-world safety and safety innovations as MB/P's latest-tech, top-of-range models....

    Manuuuuuuuuuall

    Re: Need advice please!

Guess which car has high accident rates. Yes the mighty 911 and we know why. As they say "the safest car in the world is the one that sits in the garage. It all depends on how a car is driven."

    Re: Need advice please!

Best way imo to go is the Porsche for everyday and the F1 F430 for weekends.

As you concluded (by implication) in the 3rd. sentence, cars do not generally have accidents, drivers do.

By golly Fritz you may finally get it!

Tell me Fritz, if you offer a bottle of whiskey to an alcoholic and he consumes the entire bottle and he dies from the consumption of the alcohol do you think you may have some responsibility for his death or is it soley the fault of the alcoholic?

I wish I could do that Stradale!
I will make you an offer; I work for you and you pay me enough money to get both cars and I will buy them! How's that?

    Re: Need advice please!

    hey yarub,

imo you should prefer 997ttc if you are planning to use it daily under harsh traffic and climate conditions. here is a real example for you. it has been only a year since i got my 997s and it has 24000km on it, where as i did only 14000km with my modena which is almost 3 years old. it is not because i do not trust the car's reliability, i tell you after some time you will think after the weather condition or traffic condition or something else..more than any other car.and fianlly you are not gonna be willing to step in the car and drive. After all for me no ferrari should be every day choise.

I don't make enough to pay anyone. I don't even make enough to have my Porsche never mind my Ferrari too. I don't even have a home, I sleep on the beach and shower in the YMCA. I'm posting right now from my local library. But as long as I can use my sports cars I don't care.
