Is anyone using the K-40 Calibre detector?

Please let me know how you like it, who installed it, and what you paid for the system. How does it compare to the Excort SR7/SRX?

Re: Is anyone using the K-40 Calibre detector?

I am curious about how you feel about radar detectors. I am not one who routinely drives above the speed limit but I feel that the 911 is a car that attracts attention and some cops might get some pleasure in issuing a ticket to one of us--even if it was a minor violation. I have been giving thought to installing either a K-40 Calibre or Escort SR7 (see my previous thread) but I am wondering if I really do need one and if I do get one what type would serve me best (i generally don't care for the detectors in the windows). Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks for the link but if any of you have any opinions or experience to share, please do.

Valentine 1 is the best. Period.

    I agree.

I haven't received a speeding ticket since running with a hard-wired Valentine. It must have saved me at least 20 times in the last few months. I try and keep a car several car lengths in front of me, even while speeding to allow the V1 to pick up any laser or instant-on Ka (I don't have the Blinders installed yet).

On a recent trip to Canada, me, Omeko3 and Moogle were pulled over. I was lead car and picked up a Ka blast from a Camry getting hit in front of me around the bend. Ka not to be taken lightly, I immediately slowed down, and by the time Ka got stronger, I was at 71mph (in a 65). We got pulled over and given tickets, but not for speeding - we got "no front plate" tickets, which I was guilty of, of course.

    V1 all the way.

Re: Is anyone using the K-40 Calibre detector?

I had the K-40 installed two years ago in my new 997S. I subsequently purchased a Valentine V1 for comparative purposes. The V1 is far superior to the K-40. No question.

Re: Is anyone using the K-40 Calibre detector?

I have the K40, not the Calibre version, and I love it. It works, its awesome, the LEDs are on the instrument panel in front of me and invisible to the naked eye unless they are flashing.

On the turnpike here in NJ, troopers are very fond of pacing you from your blind spot. No radar can save you from that, but alertness will.

On slower speet limit roads, like 25mph, or 35mph a radar is invaluable and super effective, because thats the only way they can get you, they can't pace you. A lot of people who knock radar detectors because they don't "really" speed don't understand that a ticket for 50 in a 25 is the same as a ticket for 90 in a 65.

I know that Valentine has a religious following and I'm sure its great. They do have a patent on direction indicators. But the K40 people have gotten around that by having different LEDs for front & rear alerts.

My vote is K40. Installed its the most invisible and seemless solution, imo.

I have had this 911(997) for 6 months and the one before it (996) for 18 months. I have been pulled over once and I did not get a ticket. Both 911s had a hardwired K40.

Here's that story if you'd like to read: http://www.surfpoet.com/archives/category/wheels/

One of the final things i negotiated with my salesperson when I ordered my 997 was that they split the cost of the K40 with me, so that was cool.

Re: Is anyone using the K-40 Calibre detector?

It's all about stealth. I have the K40 and it may not be as sensitive as the V1 but it is well hidden. Thieves and cops don't know it's there. And it gives plenty of warning which is what it is all about. Several cops have told me if you are pulled over and have a radar detector visible, that's you're warning...

Re: Is anyone using the K-40 Calibre detector?

I have the K40 installed in my 997TT. Unfortunately, I have only had it installed a short time and have not had any opportunities to judge it on performance yet. From an installation standpoint and integration it is great.

The only issue i seem to have is the remote and settings. I dont know if anyone else is experiencing this, but i am having an issue that when i use the remote to set the radar on city setting it keeps switching back to highway.

Re: Is anyone using the K-40 Calibre detector?

I have the Calibre system on my 2006 997 C4S. Overall, I'm not that impressed (system has been on the car for about 4 months), especially considering sensitivity/ range. Also, for some reason my front sensor does not seem to pick up a lot of things the rear does after I pass the source (at least not with the same intensity). I have two Beltronics 975R's on other vehicles and used the Passport 8500 X50 before putting the K40 on the 997 - both of these seem to be better than the Calibre. I have also used the V1, but felt that the bogey counter was annoying a lot of the time around shopping centers, etc. Also, left/ right detection isn't that useful since hitting a car on the side won't give cops a correct reading. I would have to recommend the Bel 975 overall for the performance, cost, etc. 8500s and V1s work - but there is something to be said for a remote installation.

Re: Is anyone using the K-40 Calibre detector?

Thanks GullwingSL for your input. Hopefully you will be able to get your issues resolved on your Calibre system. I may end up with the Escort SRX instead. One of our local audio shops install them and the manager has had one in several of his vehicles and highly recommends it. I have also seen good reviews on it on several internet sites.

Re: Is anyone using the K-40 Calibre detector?

Go with a Blinder or Lidatek set-up combined with LaserVeil over an SRX
