I wouldn't say not having PASM is a mistake. The car does ride more comfortably with PASM on our roads, although I find the handling superior with standard non-PASM suspension.
If I were to order my 997 today, I would most likely go for non-PASM suspension. PASM was part of the deal without attracting extra cost so I accepted it. I did not have much experience with Porsche suspension at the time and did not look into the various options available carefully.
As far as I am concerned the only virtue of PASM is that it allows the use of 19" wheels for our roads.
