Well its not quite paint to anything you like - whilst Porsche have done some pretty awful colours (pink Boxster in the UK to match the girls nail varnish) they will NOT make a red Cayenne. I know someone who tried to order guards red (easy enough to match you would think !) but they refused, and the nearest colour you could imagine to GR got the same response too.

any particular reason why they would refuse to make a guards red cayenne?

Huh?? How can P justify making a viper green/pink/bright orange 997 or 987 but not a guards red Cayenne? Is taste their reason? Usually they do whatever the customer wants provided he/she PAYS! This is the company that charges you for coloured wheel centres. Money is the only language P understand. Makes no sense to me.

They made at least one red Cayenne for the fire brigade of Bietigheim-Bissingen near Zuffenhausen. The Cayennes of Porsche's Werkschutz (factory security) are in red-silver. Maybe they want to reserve that color for operations vehicles. Not many buyers will order a Cayenne in red anyway, so that won't hurt sales.

About That Red Cayenne
On Friday on my way to work I saw a bright red SUV turn the corner in front of me. When I got close it was a guards red Cayenne S. Go figure...
