Incorrect! Subscribers (I'm one) may email single articles to others. I'm interpreting it just a bit broadly here.

Re: Wall Street journal liked the 997TT but had the same iss

LOL, it says that it is a negative point that you could mistake the 997 turbo for a standard Carrera... how dumb can one be?
1: The only ones making that mistake are people with no knowledge whatsoever of supercars... I don't value their opinions
2: I actually find it a pré that is not so flashy... in the end, YOU as an owner know what you drive and what it is capable off... if you drive a car to impress the neighbors... pitty you, you need counselling.

My dealer was trying to persuade me to upgrade to a Turbo. Boy, I'm glad I didn't. Seems that the C2S is more exciting than the Turbo. Porsche seems to have miscalculated on this one.

I think it rather seems one guy opinion. I don't see how it is possible to make your very general statement, that more over refers to you, a generality.

Because if you find it less "exciting", I can tell you that for me it is rather the complete opposit. I first decided to get a 997 S X51 PCCB, however, at the time didnt't followed closely the news of incoming car. My salesguy tell me, at the time feb.2006, hey at this price you might want to consider the 997 TT because it is just around the corner. I did not take long to take my decision and went on the list of TT. All this to say I could have my 997s as early as May but I chose to wait until october, guess why - for the 997 TT of course.

Not to tell you that one is a supercar.

Re: Wall Street journal liked the 997TT but had the same iss

Follow your senses, Oxonian, without letting the dealer push you. For me, the turbo is great. I have only had mine (also Arctic Silver) only a few days, but it is just what I want....power, refinement, everyday driveability in all weather, not too showy, and fun. Just enjoy whatever you get and drive safely!

    That's why I ordered one....

Joost, here in the US it is a valid criticism. Only knowledgeable car people can distinguish between Porsche's. The other day I witnessed a situation where a 997S was parked next to a 987 and the two owners were talking. A person walked up to them and commented about one as a convertible and the other a coupe. He then asked " what model year are they and which one is faster." I don't believe the 997S owner was very happy.

BTW the 3.5 sec 0-60 for the 430 probably was a time from a Euro model with launch control. I very much doubt the US models would do that well without LC.

Nick, the point is that not everybody WANTS everybody to know that they drive a $150.000 car. I sure wouldn't. I'd be pleased as the C2S owner and would respond: "Why, the Boxster, of course! It has a V12 Twin Turbo and beats everything in sight, except for yellow Ferrari Spyders."

I guess the teenager inquering Mike V about his new "corvette" could be a hint

Re: Wall Street journal liked the 997TT but had the same iss

Crash that is nonsense.Even Porsche recognizes that humans want recognition hence the Turbo script on the back.

None of us want to pay $50,000 more for a car that the only distinguishing feature between it and similar car is one is faster.

Re: Wall Street journal liked the 997TT but had the same iss

Interesting that 997S w/X-51/PCCB/AdapSptSeats, etc vs 997TT Tip/PCCB, etc etc are not very dissimilar in mthly lease pmts ($0 down, 3 yr per P configurator)....

And though 997S offers a more engaging exhaust note and 300lb less wt, it also includes an RMS-prone motor, weak tq for urban fwy commuting, and ancient chassis tech vs 997TT....

Personally, like fact that unwashed masses often confuse a 997TT w/a Boxster; a 599 w/a fugly Chevy/Nissan mongrel; and an SL65 w/an SLK .....and fact that relevant LV/NYC/Lond chicks seem to immed recognize whether a specific F/P has CCM/PCCB...and can even pick off a debadged '07 SL65 vs an '06....perhaps part of their "job skills"....

Re: Wall Street journal liked the 997TT but had the same iss

and to a person who doesn't know ferrari's....would they notice the visual difference between the 360 & 360CS?

    i doubt it

I believe what Oxonian meant was the driving dynamics of the RWD Carrera akin to the GT3 thus having more agility and "excitement" rather than having outright supercar horsepower.
An AWD car will not drive the same way as a RWD car.

Nick, I wouldn't be surprised if 9 out of 10 people wouldn't be able to tell if the Ferrari passing by them is an F430 or a 360. In my discussion with colleagues, I'm often surprised to find that many of them don't even know what the latest entry model Ferrari is. So who cares whether one can tell the difference between a 997 versus a 996. Do you really care if someone who you don't know can't make that distinction?

Look, it's very simple. My friend and I saw a 348 on the road the other day: "Look, a Ferrari! Wonder if he just bought it..." or something along these lines. It's the same with both manufacturers. One is called Porsche, the other one is called Ferrari. That's what the general public knows and I like it the way it is.

Some people can't tell the difference between a $1.00 cup of coffee and a $4.00 STARBUCKS latte, but that shouldn't bother you.

Good points but therein lies the problem. Seeing a Ferrari be it a 348, 335, 360 or 430 is an event. The brand is associated with speed, sexy stying, expensive and exclusive. It speaks a lot about the owner.

On the other hand, Porsche is associated with invert bathtub styling, an godly number of variations of models, speed, little product differention in styling, varying in price range between cheap and expensive and are massively produced. What does owning a Porsche say about an owner.

Using the Starbuck analogy, buying a Porsche is like paying for a latte but getting a one dollar cup of coffee.

Hopefully nothing except that he is a sports car guy
Porsche owners have better means to express their personality
The guys needing an educated audience to distinguish Carreras from Boxsters (or 997 S from 997 Turbo) have a serious ego-problem.
I can't tell you how much fun I had today driving around in my poor man's Porsche meeting other P-drivers (incl. lots of vintage 911 which I really admire) - we had a lot of interesting talks and didn't need any audience at all
Having said that I like Ferraris a lot (talking as a car guy, not as someone who needs a car as a personality statement).

It's only a criticism made by posers! Personally I find the "low key" clean styling of Porsches to be a GOOD THING.
