    Carlos from Spain:

...if Porsche waits too much to offer the manual, then most of the orders are going to be PDK customers which are going to fill all the available production slots, manual option will practically not hit the streets in actuality

Did Porsche plan this outcome or did they c'k up? Smiley

    Carlos from Spain:

So those that want a manual GT3 what do they do? its unknown when the manual will be available as an option but production slots are going fast given the demand, if they wait for the manual they may not get a production slot at all.

It's a tough position for customers.  Based on what happened with the carbon bucket seat shortage with the GT4 and GT3, I'd say Porsche doesn't care...take the car or don't they say.

    Likely very true.

Porsche won't release a GT3 without wing and with rear seats. It would KILL the sales of the high specced regular Carreras and would cost Porsche a fortune in high margin sales. The demand would be huge and they could not even deliver. It would also tarnish the 911 turbo sales and the even higher margins there.

    -1

No it won't. For the needs of the regular Carrera owner their car is superior to a GT3. I know why you think it will, but you got the common 911 owner wrong. Their needs are not like yours.

I agree.  For people who uses their 911 in a daily basis, like a normal car which happens to be a sportscar, driving a GT3 for this purpose is far less enticing/realistic/practical than a Carrera/GTS, no matter how it looks.

Another question is, if Porsche offers a wing-less option with the same performance and handling characteristics as the winged GT3, who would go for the latter? Smiley

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

A GT3 without wing is not a GT3, just like a 911 with the engine in the front would not be a 911.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

Just call it something else... A car more sporty, unique and engaging than a GTS, lightweight, with the GT3 engine and PDK-S ... A car for driver enthusiasts, that make the car community dream as the 911 used to for this very discerning group of people.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

A four seater (wingless or with wing) GT3 vs a four seater GTS - which one would your prefer? For me, no brainer, a GT3 for sure (as right now, it is so hard to get a 991.2 GT3). There is a possibility that even more orders will be placed for such GT3 because a lot of the potential GTS buyers will turn into GT3 owners. Porsche will need to plan making the GT3 in a similar manner (in terms of volume) as the standard Carerra in order to satisfy the demand (maybe they can ditch the GTS, who knows).

It's useless, it wont happen. And if it does they will price it at TTS prices...

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

It seems that making a more advanced power kit (a couple of notches above the X51) that included the GT3 motor, PDK-S, cooling, etc as an option for the current models would make more sense. Then the GT3 could remain as it is from a product positioning standpoint.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

That would be a USD 50k "power kit". Does this make sense? Because three guys on an Internet forum want a GT3 with rear seats? Hm.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

I think it could make sense. The X51 was about 15K for essentially different heads and manifolds I believe. I think there's a cohort of 911 fans that would pay 50K for 9K rpm in the format of their choosing. How many people on RT end up buying 2 or 3 cars to fill different roles? Many do. And choice is always welcome even if it's not cheap. Porsche has excellent marketing;I think the level of engagement between a GTS with a GT3 power plant vs the 991.2 turbo power plant is large enough to cover 50K. Certainly the price difference between Mercedes models and AMG models can be that large or larger. I get it that AMG is more than just a power kit.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

To be honest, how much longer will the NA engine be in the GT3s .... it is possible that this 991.2 GT3 and RS will be the last batch of NA and every future 911 (including GT cars) will be in turbo form .... like the upcoming GT2 RS. So it won't make much difference as all 911s will be turbocharged. By then, a GT3 may not have that much of a difference than a 911 Turbo.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

Have you checked the weight difference between a TT and a GT3?

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

Just want to raise the point that once the 992 is out, there is a chance that all 911s will go for turbo. If the GT cars are also using turbo engine, the only thing that can differentiate the 911s is perhaps the type of turbo used (and maybe, as you mentioned, their respective weight - as the GT cars should be using more light weight materials). As such, there is a chance that driving characteristics of future 911 models may be more similar to each other than now (as the GT3 and GT3RS are still NA).

Porsche will find a way to "differentiate" the cars. If not through engine tech, through hp figures and exteriors.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

I will take that in a heartbeat. GT3 with rear seats. Yes

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

To be honest, 2 seats or 4 seats, with wing or no wing, it doesn't matter as there is no allocation.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

I would even take one with PDK

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

how is the allocation going in France, Luxembourg or Germany?

So far in UAE, it is low and only May and June allocation released. laugh

According to my information, 2017 allocations in Germany are already sold out. This doesn't mean that a visit to the Porsche dealer isn't useful, some Porsche dealers seem to have ordered cars with the most common options (mostly PDK though), so with some luck, people could get one because the options can still be changed. I would always try...

I was more interested on the official allocation already released with a build date in front of it.

so far here, very few! only 2 months allocated.

Allocations in the US are difficult to get. My dealer got 8 for the entire year. His list is over 100 customers wanting to buy one.Crazy.

Who doesn't want to drive a FREE car? People aren't stupid. These lists would vanish if Porsche made enough cars to meet the real demand. It says nothing about the car itself.
